"The best players in the world make mistakes. This gentleman [Martin Atkinson] is one of the top referees in European football, he can also make mistakes. He clearly made four important mistakes yesterday. He is like the lawyer who is consistent because he lost 15 of 15 cases. You don't want that lawyer."
"I am risking my place in the dugout for the [League Cup] final by having this discussion. I cannot go too far. But the reality is that week after week we are having these decisions . Football is football, but I think it is too much.
On the standard of refereeing in general
"The referees are trying, of course they are trying, but they are not doing well. It is not fair. That is not my opinion, that is in the eyes of everyone. "How would I improve it? If the referee cannot see a penalty three metres in front of him, some official in front of a screen cannot miss it. If we want to protect the integrity and the honesty of referees, if we believe that mistakes - and I believe it - are because of the unpredictability of the game, then technology can help. If I was a referee I would welcome it. "I spoke to the referee after the game. Mr Atkinson told me he didn't have the chance to see on TV the incidents. I asked him if he had any contact with people from outside of the ground - he said he had no feedback at all. He said that he didn't see any of the four incidents. He saw no reason for a penalty or a card in any of the actions."

Generally speaking, the only time I have ever seen a team receive constant bias from referees was in the Ferguson era at Utd - and that was positive bias. Without a shadow of a doubt, the club benefitted hugely from the majority of officials being on their side.
Mourinho seem to be inferring that match officials are against him and his club. I have seen no evidence of this at all. But he's not doing himself any favours by having a pop at them week after week. If anything, that will work against him. The man is a t0sser.

You might not have seen but i clealry saw 2 incidents where chelsea should have got a penalty and didnt, in the last 2 weeks..also if you add in the Matic incident where Barnes should have seen red and instead got off without even a yellow and Matic saw red for reacting to a career threatening tackle, one could say Maureen has a point.
I am not a Chelsea or Mourinho fanboy but being objective, whenever chelsea look like they are about to open up an unasailable lead at the top they get some dodgy decisions against them and drop a fee points allowing city to stay within touching distance. If the reffing was fair, chelsea would probably be 15 points clear at the top...
Well that's the way i see it.
Also, his comments on Atkinson and the refereeing standard in general are 100% spot on i think. We ahould have seen at least 2 penalties in our game yeaterday.

i think you've hit on something there darcus. when I was reading the transcript of his rant, all I kept thinking of was fergie.
my own take on it is that now fergie is gone, mourinho is angling to be the next manager that referees are afraid to go against. I think he's looking to fill that gap and intimidate refs and the fa like fergie did, to the extent that they start winning pens and getting extra minutes at the end of games to score.

I have no doubts he is doing that, but then again all managers at top clubs are doing that. However, he has also made some very very valid points. How many times have we not gotten a penalty when we should have? How many times have we seen opposition players punished with a yellow when it ahould have been red? Both us and Southampton were robbes of penalties yeaterday.

Now way is Chelsea the only club suffering from the ineptitude shown by Premier League referees, week in, week out, but they are certainly getting more than fair share. I completely understand Maureen's bitterness and I can also understand Matic's reaction to that horrible tackle.

Mourinho is like the boy that cried wolf though... he's made enough stupid comments that when something genuine happens no one has any sympathy for him. He's his own worst enemy.

I saw the two horror challenges by Barnes and if the referee is saying he didn't see them, can Barnes be charged after the game by the FA.
Two cowardly challenges that could have caused serious damage, the second one in particular.
AS for Maureen's conspiracy theory, the referee's have been awful for every team in the Prem at some point this season.
Maureen is very good at deflecting attention from his team's poor performances by blaming the officials.

Chelsea's are only in the spotlight because Mourinho is trying to make it news. Ref's make mistakes - deal with it. But with players trying harder and harder to cheat their way to victory each week, things will get missed. Does Jose seriously think that the people running the premier league are putting pressure on referee's to stop Chelsea from winning!? I'll say it again - the man is a t0sser.
