One of the reasons why players like that looked so poor is because they were wearing such iconic numbers and didn't measure up.

The players can be iconic, but not an arbitrary number. Every squad, every club, every year has a number 7, 9, 10 etc. meaningless. Would it have made any difference if Rush had worn number 42? Of course not.
