At the end of the season, 7 and 8 will both be free.

9 also could be if Lambert leaves.

I would give 7 to Sterling,

8 I would leave unless we sign a world class midfielder

9 has been ruined recently, Carroll, Aspas, Lambert... ??

Sturridge should wear 9 if he ever gets to playing consistently again. 8 should be vacant for at least a year, but if anyone gets it, it should be Jordan. He's wearing Stevie's England number as well.

Squad numbers don't mean a thing. If the number you wear on your back weighs you down in some way then you shouldn't be playing anyway.

I would give Markovic no.8. That would free up 50 for when we sign Honda.

I hate all these odd numbers players have & I don't care that supporters want names on their replicas - I wish we'd go back to the players selected on said day lining up in kits number'd from one to eleven - no messing mad

Honda 50 has more of a ring to it.

Yep. Never understood why any fan or player would care about a shirt number.

I disagree. 7, 8, and 9 have a lot of history behind them for our club. Some truly great players have worn them. Will that necessarily make whoever takes on that number better? No, but it's a symbol. It's a reminder of who we are and the legacy those player should be upholding.

Saying that those numbers mean nothing, when Suarez, Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Gerrard, Fowler, and Rush and the like wore those numbers is silly. That's like saying that the fact that we wear red means nothing, that the Liverbird means nothing, or that the Hillsborough flames and the number 96 mean nothing. They're symbols that our club has attached meaning to. They're reminders of our history. They mean something.
