Thought as the day went on, my anger would subside. But no. Fans who have hound SG out are an absolute disgrace to the club and everything it represents. Granted he's had a couple of slightly below par performances in accordance with his amazing standards. However, it was no reason for calls for him to be dropped and subbed and not be awarded with a new contract.
He has been a phenomenal player for us and there are people who still criticise him for his slip against Chelsea, which is unacceptable.
Now that's he's confirmed he's leaving we need to not only replace him as a player, but also as a captain. We need to give the captaincy to someone who is a stable member of the team and will replace him in midfield. People are saying Hendo, but I don't think he's ready, so Lucas would be the ideal choice. He's got superb pedigree, great leader of men and knows the club well.
