How did he play? I saw that he came on at half time and also that BR now rates him and his versatility. Was he playing in defense or midfield?

He came on for Touré as a centrehalf. Another strange sub if you ask me. We are playing Can, Henderson and Markovic as defenders. Meanwhile Moreno and Manquillo can't get on the pitch.

Yes agreed. Markovic seems to be a winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Or a forward wing in 4-3-3 formation.
He is most definitely NOT a wingback in a 3-4-3 or 5-3-2 formation.
At least it shouldn't be his preferred position imo.

4231 seems to be ideal with our personnel.
Put our creativity behind a mobile striker and we will flourish as we did last season.
Personally I think Can and Henderson should be our main 2 in the deeper midfield role but few will agree.
Gerrard would make a good impact sub in an attacking role in the middle of the 3.
Otherwise we have Sterling, Lallana, Coutinho and Markovic to fight for 3 of those 4 spots to start each match.
Sterling as the man up top unless we pick someone up in January/get Sturridge back.

Lallana, Coutinho and Markovic would be the most obvious choice of the three if Sterling is playing up top. If Mario or Lambert is up top in that system, Coutinho or Sterling could play behind either one. Or Sterling could easily take the place of Lallana or Markovic. Lucas could also come in for Can or Henderson, and then we could offload Allen to Burnley. This system if employed would seems to offer more flexibility with the players with each in their respective positions. That was one of the things that annoyed me about BR when he came to LFC. He seem to have a thing for not utilizing players in their natural positions.

To answer the op - can was in our top two players hands down. Won majority of his tackles and contested balls. Was composed with the ball and pass forward with a purpose.
Him and sakho were our two best performers on the day.
For those saying he's out of position can played centre back for the German under 21 and at his previous club. When he first came to the club he was touted as a DM/CB so not exactly out of position. He definitely didn't look out of place there.
Why Hendo and markovic are playing as wingbacks is beyond me tho. We're never gonna see the best of Hendo with stevie still on the pitch unfortunately. The guy always plays better with stevie g out. It's like Hendo is always deferring to Gerrard and doesn't play his natural game.
Back to can if he isn't in the starting 11 next game something is dreadfully wrong.

How is Markovic a wingback over Moreno???? Beggars belief doesn't it? And Hendo is abysmal as a right wingback - just awful! Henderson is abysmal full stop. This season he would be lucky to get in a top 16 side in the EPL. Who else do we have though? The Welsh Xavi? If you don't laugh, you'd cry!

Didn't see the game so can't comment on how he did but I did read Rodgers praising him. If he thinks he's as good as he said in the article, why the hell doesn't he play him more?

I read that same article and was thinking the same. Can will probably on the bench again tomorrow and Allen back in or some sh!te.

Can, Markovic, Lallana, should form the base of our middle and combining with Sterling and Coutinho. Surely there is enough creativity and running there to have a competitive defensive and attacking midfield.
My opinion on Henderson has not changed - not good enough by a country mile.
