Chelsea after Messi? HA! Sorry, mate. You lost me here.

They have been linked and a fee of 200 mil mentioned ! Who knows if it's true ? But don't shoot the messenger ! I got told I was talking rubbish that Sturridge is injury prone and would be out injured a heck of a lot more this season but hey where is he now in treatment and how many games has he played ? I also said we would be foolish not to be getting a class striker as we can't rely on Sturridge being fit enough to do what he did last season ! Why are we in the sh1t were in now tell me ? Let me guess we have no class striker dannys out and goals are not coming from the rest of the team as predicted by many on here when we lost suarez ie we got seventy goals from the rest of the team blah blah so you red can HA all you like
Just one thing I would like to point out...something which you have repeatedly mentioned yet is complete nonsense. Chelsea are not being linked with a 200 million move for Messi...rather, CESC FABREGAS has being quoted saying he would love Chelsea to sign Messi and the headlines read "Cesc Fabregas urges Chelsea to sign £200m Lionel Messi from Barcelona".

Not shooting the messenger or attacking you, just pointing out the facts.

That being said, if players aren't impressing or getting game-time and look second string, selling them and signing replacements makes a lot of sense.

Every club has 2 decent keepers and we have 1, and he is out of form. A keeper is essential.

With Johnson likely leaving to Roma, Manquillo struggling to get games ahead of him, and Flanagan still to come back, I can see a right back coming in, but probably not this window. If one does, it will be because Johnson left early.

Enrique is in the same position as a couple of players. He is categorically not first choice, and has to compete to play. A suitable replacement would allow the club to move him on.

With Toure, Lovren, Skrtel and Sakho we have a good selection of defenders. However, with Toure about to run down his contract, it is time for Rodgers to decide on who replaces him in the squad. I can see this being a decision for the summer, so no changes here.

There was a need to look for a potential replacement in the summer for Gerrard, and Lucas looked to be on his way. It is entirely possible than Lucas will leave, with Rodgers pretty adamant that every player on the pitch must contribute to defence and attack, and Lucas' game is very much not in tune with that philosophy. If Lucas leaves, a replacement will have been lined up.

With Henderson, Can and Allen in midfield, there are good options here. I expect Can's game-time to increase as the season progresses. Nobody is really needed here, especially with Allen and Henderson being two consistent performers this season.

Coutinho's form is looking better, and Suso will soon be back from injury to press for games. With players able to fill in from just behind and just in front, I doubt we'll sign a creative attacking midfielder.

Lallana, Sterling, Markovic and Borini are the clubs players to supplement Coutinho and Suso in the next two positions. Borini's days playing for Liverpool are numbered, and he has failed to impress for us since he signed. A talented player who did well at Sunderland, I suspect relieving him from the books will allow the club to bring in another striker able to play slightly further back. Origi was signed to join in the summer and might be brought back early. With the club struggling for goals, Rodgers might be able to convince the owners for another signing here, but that is more hope than expectation.

With Sturridge, Lambert and Balotelli, Origi as aforementioned and/or a potential new signing, Liverpool will be less suceptible to injuries causing a goal crisis.

So summary, the club, and I really expect this to happen or else I will be very disappointed in the club this window, is for any player leaving to be replaced, with the addition of another striker, and a goalkeeper.

Expectations:

New GK to compete with Mignolet
Origi signed early to compete with Sturridge
Lucas to leave and be replaced

Hopes

New ST to replace Borini
Montoya/New RB to replace Johnson

Slimmer Chance

New LB to replace Enrique
New CM - long term Gerrard replacement
New CB to replace Toure

I agree with your 'expectations' but I can't see Rodgers turning it around as I feel we will always keep on conceding loads no matter what. I would add Rodgers replaced by a manager who has won trophies, but probably my expectations are just a hope.

I believe a goalkeeper will come in based on the events that have occurred lately with Jones coming in the team. That's it.

Who ever is do the defence coaching needs getting shut of or a new system implemented as it's the worst I have ever seen a liverpool defence we were noted for defences in the past what's gone wrong ?

What's gone wrong is that Rodgers got appointed. No team coming second in the league conceded 51 goals, I think we were had the 6th worst record last season. Rodgers doesn't has a clue when it comes to defensive systems.

I do think BR has major issues with defending in general because we have leaked goals for two seasons now.

We used to knock Wenger for being bad but BR is not better in that respect.

A striker seems necessary and Lacazette is the obvious top choice.
I wouldn't be averse to someone like Doumbia or Berahino either.
Obviously that all depends on the funds and wages.

If De Gea is heading to Madrid then I'd want Casillas above anyone.
Second choice would be Matia Perin.

Heart wants Torres on loan if we can slash his wages in half.

A GK and a striker and we very well could, but I'm not holding my breath.

keeper needs to come first. especially with jones out for 6 weeks, if mignolet gets inured no GK.

plus mignolet is awful.

i presume your talking about a defensive midfielder, i personally would wait until the summer for that position. i hope we go out and sign a 25 million pound dm to really sure up this defence once and for all.

striker yes is what we should be looking for, no chance sturridge will be able to handle europa and league so we should looking for a striker who can run in behind and press the oppositions defence.
