The thing is that buying players that don't fit has happened time and time again under FSG. Only a Club that recruits based on pounds, shillings and pence could buy Suarez and Carroll on the same day. Two players with styles so different to each other that they may as well of played different sports.
Our recruitment strategy isn't based on buying players to fit an ideology or a system it is based on extracting the most value. We are buying players based on financial sense and not Footballing sense.
We bought Carroll because he was £15m cheaper than Torres and on much lower wages, we bought Suarez because he had bit someone and was available for below his true worth. We bought Balotelli because he had fallen out with Milan and was available at a cut price, we wanted Remy because he had a clause in his contract that meant we could get him on the cheap.
There is a pattern there and it is one of putting value above whether the player is right for our system. That isn't how the big clubs act could you see Barca or Arsenal compromising the way they play because they could get a player for below his true value. Well that is what we are asking Rodgers to do and then blaming him when it doesn't work out.
We need to start recruiting the players who fit our system and who will kick us on in the here and now. not looking for players who are available on the cheap or just available like the players we bought from Southampton. Posters keep mentioning how much we have spent without actually quantifying that players like Manquillo, Moreno, Can, Markovic and Origi simply aren't ready or in the case of Origi even here yet.

Spot on with this one. It all goes back to LFC being a feeder club for FSG.

Agree, but the strange thing is that at the same time we sign players for over the odds money too:
Lallana, Lovren and Markovic all seem to have been too expensive if you are looking to buy on the cheap.

I get what you saying but Rodgers doesn't get a free get out of jail card, he still should have a team beater than Swansea west ham Southampton.
He is under performing and cannot sort a backline in 3 seasons

Perhaps buying Suárez and Carroll had something to do with the fact that one was an out and out target man striker and one more of a second striker/AM. Dalglish wanted our game to be based on crosses coming into the box for Carroll. Hence the purchase of Downing too. KD has even commented on the fact that stats show whoever gets the most crosses into the box wins...or something to that effect. Buying 2 players of different qualities for different positions hardly seems strange to me.
I am not saying FSG are not placing constraints but using Carroll/Suarez as examples hardly seems fitting. Especially since Damien Commolli has since openly stated that he informed FSG they could make a significant loss on Carroll. Yet they bought him anyway, trying to support their manager.
Also, saying we bought Suarez because he bit someone and was available for a cut price seems a bit far fetched. Suarez was already regarded as one of Europe's hottest prospects and had several suitors after him.
Just saying, perhaps they are placing constraints but the examples given as reasoning behind your statement seem to be full of holes IMO and far fetched to say the least.

Some good points here regarding our recruitment policy being essentially scatter gun with regards to players that fit. I said this over summer with some others and unfortunately we are being proven right. Continuously buying players that don't make sense and have very little chance of working out for us.

I think all people involved in player recruitment need to change tack to be honest.

When a manager has the shortlist of Eto or Balotelli with 4 days of the window to go then you know something's wrong

Rodgers didn't want to sign Balotelli, look at his comments 2 weeks before we signed him
