I'm never happy with a defeat no matter who we're playing. However who amongst us expected a win, given the quality of our side and the quality of their side, together with the way we've been performing and the way they've been performing, not to mention them being at home?
As for Saturday next I'm hopeful and I believe a win is possible, can't say I'm confident though, because once again there's a huge gulf in class between the two squads. The unpalatable truth is if we're to win we'll have to play above ourselves. Focusing on particular performances both good and bad misses the point, and the point is why should we support or make excuses for a recruitment policy that inevitably results in a continual dumbing down of the squad quality? Imo that's where the blame lies, I.e. with those who set the policy and not those who are constrained to implement it. As long as the owners persist with this policy we will always have to play above ourselves to beat any decent side, whether it's in the PL or the CL.
You talk far too much sense at the best of times mate but it is definitely the largest contributory factor to our plight. I've notice too that the quality journalists around (if I can get away with that) have picked up on this of late and I've seen certain players now referenced as a 'committee buy' in recent stories e.g. Lambert.
Don't think there was much wrong with BR's reasoning tonight and not going to bash him. The positives and possibly some of the reasons he did what he did for me:
We had very little chance of winning on abysmal current form -he played the probabilities
He knows progression will come from victories against others in the group and that is still very possible especially with Sturridge back
The game against Chelsea is far more pivotal
Made a statement to a few of the players taking positions for granted and big time Charlie brigade.
Giving fringe players a chance to genuinely shine/push out the complacent.
I'm glad even though he is under pressure he is still able to do what he did and not just wither away. I'm not now his greatest fan but some of the negativity borders on the ridiculous especially considering there are many at the club equally as responsible for our current state not just the manager.
