Our first team got mullered at home by Real 3-0. Our first team has been absolutely dire, failing to score against lowly Hull, Newcastle and others. Our first team were heading for a loss tonight... based on recent form. So why is changing the team around and trying other options considered to be throwing the game??? BR actually gave us a bit more chance by trying some new options. Toure, apart from one lapse, had a really good game. Can looks assured in that position - and Lucas seems to play a lot better without Gerrard next to him for some reason. Markovich wasn't great again - but arguably a bit better. Lallana had some good moments - and Borini showed more movement than Balo or Lambert has lately.

Yes, we were still tepid up front - abysmal and having no confidence in the final third - and that still has to be fixed. But how can naming a new team and trying new options said to be 'throwing in the towel' when the first team has been so awful? It's a good little soundbite and lots of our fans have fallen for it - but it's not really true. We brought our best three players on for the last quarter of the game and looked NO BETTER up front! Gerrard, Coutinho and Sterling created nothing remotely close to the equaliser - so not starting them is not really much of a concession is it? The team tonight did a lot better than the team did at Anfield - no matter what the armchair pundits trot out.

Yeah me too, Rodgers shook things up a bit tonight and it worked. Had we put the usual eleven out its fair to suggest we could have shipped an even greater defeat. Truth is it seems a lot of our posters allow the media to overly influence their opinions. And of course there's an element only waiting for an opportunity to have a go at the manager, regardless of what he does. That team needed to be shook up and fair play to Rodgers for doing it. Better sooner than later.

Never before have i seen LFC do such a thing.

Now you look like a complete fool. That team performed better than our supposed first team did at Anfield. Actually, they played the best game since Spurs - for all your blustering and pompous doom-mongering - you're wrong again! When your team is in the doldrums you change things, try different options, try new personnel, new combinations. Had we played the team you wanted we probably would have lost by a greater margin.

you think he changed it all of a sudden against real madrid because he thought this was a better team?

he has proved time and time again he has no idea how to field that squad. by throwing the towel in he managed to stumble across players we already knew would go out and try.

it's not about misery. ya see, this is the mistake people keep making. citing misery, doom and all those buzz words stop people from seeing what i'm getting at.

Trying to extract shafts of light from this situation is a waste of time. if this was rodgers starting out it might be different but we are not building a team, we had a team last year and it has been decimated. We should have been kicking on but instead it is in ruins, we have gone entirely backward. So, my point is rodgers isn't taking us forward, he has taken us backward.

in isolation it might be somewhat acceptable to have lost one nil in madrid, but no one will convince me that real took us seriously. they only ran around in the last ten minutes. it was like a harlem globetrotters game. we have been completely dire this season, in team selection, tactics, morale and effort and it is for that reason that i think this bullshiit "i'm a real fan because i'm finding tiny positives" carry on unproductive and unintelligent.

nope, he should have been making these supposed changes against the lesser teams. there is no way he hought tonights team was his strongest team. no way. if he did he would have been running them out over the last few games. he was throwing the towel.

also, what the is he at? how can he be so clueless about his own squad when he is supposed to be building from last year? no one knows what he is doing, not the players, the fans, not even him. there is no strategy what so ever. every game looks like a fire fight, a constant struggle not to implode.

because he doesnt rate these players. He NEVER plays them, and yet rolled them out against a side who thumped us at home. we were fortunate tonight because a) these lads went out to prove something and b) madrid barely got togged out for the game. Ronaldo was still in his slacks in the first half.

This thread was about the Madrid game so thats what I was talking about

We were better with the changes to the team tonight, like it or not
Thats not an attempt to extract a shaft of light, its a fact
So starting a thread to criticise the team and manager before the game even began was "unproductive and unintelligent"

And when did I ever mention who was and wasnt a 'real' fan? crazy
Dont put words in my mouth please

right ill give you that smithie, the real fan nonsense tends to come more from some others on here. but i dont see the point in saying one pile of shiite is less smelly than the other. we may have not been given a hiding, but thats nothing to cling to imo.
