Gerrard hasn't been good enough to play for us for about 5 years, he takes every set piece possible in order to get his stats up, as he knows it's the only way he will.

BR doesn't have the balls to drop him though, as he knows that as soon as he does, Gerrard will go crying to the papers and the owners; calling for BR to be sacked. The guy's a mercenary and no doubt he will get a contract extension by Xmas and plague the team for another season or until a new manager tells him he's done. Then Gerrard will no doubt join the club he's wanted to for the last decade in order to win something and pay for his retirement.

Good point about Gerrard distracting the defence I had not thought of that there must be some reason these expensive defenders turn to mush when they join us. Rodgers must take some blame also

Any manager who turns on Gerrard is done for. We all remember Carragher and Gerrard phoning in performances for Rafa in his last season, we all remember them crying to the owners to get Hodgson sacked, we all remember Gerrard telling Kenny to sit the [oops] down and slating him and belittling him at any opportunity, we all remember Gerrard arse kissing Rodgers, which will all change when he doesn't get a contract extension or gets dropped.

Gerrard thinks everyone owes him something and thinks he's bigger than the club.

Gerrard isn't the immediate problem for me but we do need to buy a top class replacement as I don't think he should be playing as much as he does and next year he'll be even slower.

There's plenty of players who can take free-kicks - Balotelli, Lambert, Suso, Coutinho, Borini. A shed load who can take penalties and corners.

Can you honestly not remember the whole fiasco 10 years ago, which resulted in Gerrard saying that the club couldn't match his ambitions, wanting a bumper new contract, on the verge of joining Chelsea, getting death threats from fans, before signing a new deal which matched Chelsea's contract offer te day before he was due to leave. Should an almost retired, crocked, can barely move on the pitch player be earning the most money at this club and hinting at contract extensions every month, NO.

The best thing Gerrard can do for the great good of this club is to retire or tell the club that he wants to be used sparingly and to give youth the chance.No, he won't do that though as he's captain fantastic, Mr. Liverpool.

No other top class club or manager would have Stevie as their first choice defensive or other midfielder, based on his performances over recent seasons.

any player is only as good as his last performance and that has to be a team philosophy and discipline.
