This thread is a joke surely? Stevie at 35 is still 3 times better than any player we possess at the club. Everytime things don't go to well some fans call for stevie's head which is desrespectful snd stupid. I swear some people don't know what they have until its gone, it happened a few seasons ago when he was injured for a long time and some fans were happy he was out of the team but soon realised he is a massive player that was missed. When he came back the team was miles better. Stop calling for the guys head and making him a scapegoat to our failings. Stevie at 35 is the only elite player at our hands, his skills and his energy are fading no doubt but calling for his head everytime things don't work out makes me sick.

Now don't get me wrong, has been a legend for our club but the time has come for him to move to a lesser club or retire.
We are constantly playing with 10 men each week with Gerrard in the team. His role is ineffective, he does not command in midfield or provide defensive help to our defense.
So what is the point?
I find it amusing he is hiding behind the Balotelli witchhunt, which is taking all the pressure off the performances Gerrard has been phoning in.
We are not a retirement home for ageing footballers.
A real powerhouse midfield for us would be Henderson, Can and Allen as our midfield 3, with Lallana, Markovic and Balotelli upfront.
But for the love of our club we need to bench Gerrard now. Yes he needs to be benched but when we have a better option than him. Are you saying that Allen or Hendo or even Can were better than him? Bullocks. Do you remember how we were playing against I think QPR when he was put behind Balotelli leaving the DM role to others, the ball hardly came forward. He is quite good in the 'quarter back' role but needs a real good DM to play alongside him. Look at City, they play Toure with another true DM, Fernandinho/Fernando or Chelsea who play Fabregas with Matic/Obi Mykel. In a 433 formation you need a true DM which we don't have, maybe Can could be that guy but I still don't know where/how BR wants him to play. In fact, somebody was saying that BR doesn't know his best formation, I think he is right. And don't tell me Balotelli has been more useful than SG. I have more questions on Allen actually, he is neither a DM nor an AM, not a great passer of the ball.

My point is this position of deep lying midfielder has been created for Gerrard because he no longer has the legs or energy to get about the pitch.
Its that position which is damaging our team and subsequently Gerrard, we constantly get over run in midfield with Gerrard not willing to get further up the pitch.
If we played Can, Henderson, Allen as a midfield 3 that problem would be negated, and we would also have more bodies in midfield to support our attacking 3.
Also having Gerrard play in front of Lovren is preventing Lovren making his runs up field, which he did to great avail with Southampton.
Gerrard has no legs or energy and should not be in the team full stop.
As for Gerrard being key, the player we missed during the run in was Henderson not Gerrard.
Maybe if Gerrard had been benched that slip which derailed our title run would not have happened.
Reality check, Gerrard as a large number of posters agree is not good enough.

Still a decent player with a footballing brain built for attacking but not defending. Tell you what, he would be better than Ricky Lambert as a 4th choice striker. Let's reinvent the man.

I don't think he can make all those runs at 35 years old as a striker but I am sure he will score a few. He won't have the energy to press the defenders all over the field.

Just clutching at straws I suppose. I feel once he starts getting benched, it's the beginning of the end. It will be a sad day when Steven Gerrard stops playing for Liverpool FC.

Totally agree Sahl that is why I am shocked when I hear fans calling for his head and its not about sentement and what not but there is absolutely no quality in our other players to suggest that he should be dropped. I think it will be a very emotional time when he decides his time is finished.
