Now don't get me wrong, has been a legend for our club but the time has come for him to move to a lesser club or retire.

We are constantly playing with 10 men each week with Gerrard in the team. His role is ineffective, he does not command in midfield or provide defensive help to our defense.

So what is the point?

I find it amusing he is hiding behind the Balotelli witchhunt, which is taking all the pressure off the performances Gerrard has been phoning in.

We are not a retirement home for ageing footballers.

A real powerhouse midfield for us would be Henderson, Can and Allen as our midfield 3, with Lallana, Markovic and Balotelli upfront.

But for the love of our club we need to bench Gerrard now.

I actually thought he was much better than Allen and Henderson last night and I'm not sure we have a good enough replacement for him anyway. Certainly not Lucas, Its too soon for Can. I think he does need someone next to him though, Real played with Kroos and Modric alongside each other and they dominated midfield and we were very successful with 2 alongside each other under Benitez. I really think playing with one holding midfielder isn't working amd it won't work whoever plays there

Gerrard does still contribute, and is good to have around for his experience, but I do think its time he started getting some bench time. Hopefully with Can now fit we might get a chance to see Can, Hendo and Allen play together. I'd quite like to see:

I agree WNP, any team without Gerrard in would be a plus for me.

He'll know when to call it a day.

The manager looks to Stevie as an icon to motivate the team. But he is slow and doesn't dominate in any role these days. The long range passes are quite spectacular, but would be unnecessary if we had a decent midfield and attack that could create and score goals by tight passing and moving.

It is obvious that the calibre of players we have as options to Stevie are not exactly world class and despite the "hype" and enthusiasm expressed by many fans, Henderson and Allen should never be first team regulars.

I think the way things are currently going that he'll announce retirement before the end of the season.
I think he only stayed this year in the hope that things would crack on from last season, in the hope of finally securing a PL title medal, and that CLEARLY ain't going to happen anytime soon.

bench him, let can and hendo have a run, and then bring the fossil on with 20 minutes to go. (not talkin bout you growls )
