Snake ye, you have a good point, i don't know what amount extra we get for getting to lets say the quarters. I think most fans actually feel "the next game is the most important". To sum up my sentiments though, i would not risk league form for CL form. I know CL is important but we stand to lose a lot more if we don't make it into the CL next year again, more then we would get for reaching the latter stages now.

Qualifying again has to be our main priority IMO.

Completely agree, we get more money than last year for qualifying too, and I think we will fall behind in terms of transfers if we aren't champions league participants. We must qualify this year. However it's important to get through the group stages of the champions league as that gives a big bump in revenue. Plus round of 16/ quarters is very acceptable with our current players and Rodgers' first season in the champs league.

Each club earned a minimum of €12.2 million, progressing further in the tournament means a little financial bonus to go with the feeling of success, per UEFA’s report:

“€3.5m for the last 16, an additional €3.9m for the quarter-finals, €4.9m more for the semis, and €6.5m extra for the final.”

Not sure how accurate that is but those are last years figures and I agree its better to get in next season but it would be nice if we can negotiate the group at least.

The point was that someone was getting exited at the prospect of smashing what is arguably the weakest side in the league, following the rather dismal showings thus far with one exception, that shows the level of expectation now. Of course every game has its own level of excitement otherwise no one would pay the entrance. You don’t have to twist the thing to distort the point I was making. My expectations for LFC is to be always able to beat, or if someone prefers, “smash” the best in the league, not just to rejoice in beating the weakest, while being resigned to being surpassed by the strongest.

I wasn't twisting anything. You made a very snide comment about a poster getting excited about our next match, thats all...and i am not the only one who understood it that way, as pidgeon commented too.

Just a week or so ago, people on here were carrying on about how good united were because they beat QPR.

I want to win, everyone wants to smash every team we play, be it QPR or Barca... no difference, I see nothing wrong with a fan getting excited about smashing another team.

YOu were the one who brought up "managed expectations"...not me.

We all have our own opinions on these things I suppose, and if this forum tells us anything it’s that most of us don’t change them too often! anyway looking back at my original comment I was probably a bit harsh on that poster, as its not his fault that we’re all feeling so nervous playing any team above midtable this season, while relishing the prospect of thumping the little guys.

Ninja we weren't going to win the title even if we'd beaten Palace. We were going to lose the title on goal difference. We lost the title the day we lost to Chelsea at Anfield. If we'd at least drawn that game, which we could have done had BR been cunning enough to let Jose play his desired 0-0 draw to the end, then winning our last two games against Palace and Newcastle BY ANY SCORE would have given us the title.
