In 2010 the premier leagues two top clubs sold 1.2 and 1.5 million shirts outside the UK. At between 45-65 pounds a pop, that's a lot of money.

According to Delloitte domestic TV rights for the premier league bare worth 5.7 billion dollars this season and overseas broadcasting rights 3.7 billion dollars. That's hardly 3% of the domestic media revenue. If you add to that the income from merchandise, you will see just how much the overseas market generates. Yes there are a lot of counterfeit shirts, but there are a hell of a lot of original ones too. ah facts! some people don't deal well with them

Yep, it is painfully obvious that it is is an expanding market with huge earning potential....but for some reason, and i really cannot understand why, people refuse to acknowledge the fact.

Has anyone got the figures for what Liverpool receive from domestic sky and BT and what they receive from overseas channels ? The overall figure is meaningless as the overseas is shared between the rest of the world and covers all sports. I have no idea what the figure is but I bet it's tiny. Box monkey you are fond of facts then find that fact out for me

Yep, it is painfully obvious that it is is an expanding market with huge earning potential....but for some reason, and i really cannot understand why, people refuse to acknowledge the fact. That's bollox here in the uk the cable TV market is saturated for me to get all prem games I need to pay over £40 per month to receive BT and sky that's double what it was a year or two ago. Do I see loads of people signing up not really just as ticket prices (forget that) people are picking and choosing I only have sky. So there us precious little growth left in the uk TV market. Now to overseas there is now more completion German French and Spanish leagues are now expending their market share. Now to the third world nothing much there other than wearing counterfeit tops for prem club unless you think they will be flocking to pay £40 per month in Somalia and Chad. Emerging nations such as china / India and so on are likely to expand as the citizens become wealthier but if you think those nations are exponentially going to adopt a foreign sport as their national game watching on TV you are in for a big disappointment. All this will eventually be reflected in sponsorship it will level out. When it does the big clubs will be forced back to their domestic markets trying to get back those punters who have left the sport either because bored with the e excessive commercialism or simply priced out. Liverpool FC thanks to FSG will be spectacularly unplaced to take advantage of this. But never mind eh ?

It's true that a lot of shirts worn in China and India are counterfeits, but even these contribute to ths club. In fact, Standard Chartered is not too bothered whether it's genuine or not because they want visibility for their brand to be able to sell their product and services and therefore are ready to pay more in sponsorship if LFC is popular in Asia. In read in an earlier post where you say that people wear shirts as a fashion, though this may exist, I can assure you that it is a minority, most wear it as true fans. Also, tv rights are sold at very hefty prices to broadcasters around the world, and yes there is competition with other leagues, but currently, the EPL is the one being sold at the highest prices. As you said it yourself, the UK is all saturated and therefore there is not much growth that would come from there, and it's the same in Scandinavian countries and Europe. True growth will come from other places including the US where football is gaining popularity. Local fans though very important is not going to improve the revenue levels too much, this is why the clubs are having their pre-seasons outside UK.

What is that figure ?

What is that figure ? LFC doesn't receive anything directly from Sky or overseas, it all goes to the FA of which we were paid I think 99m last season, the highest in the league with City second.

What is that figure ? no that figure covers payments for the premier league rights, not the rights for all sports! I don't know the exact figure that Liverpool receive from that deal but to say the world market is less than 3% of our revenue is completely disproven by those numbers
