The point to this thread is that we're now selling Sterling to make a profit is it not? Is he being sold? Have they made an offer? Is this 'money ball' bulcrap you seemed to think you know about because someone told you in place? No is the answer.
Jesus. Such a doom and gloom nothing is good about the club view of things. I don't know why you bother!
Are you referring to me ? When did I say I knew about this moneyball none sense I have seen the film that's about it. If you are the expert suggest you advise Liverpool FC looks like they need it this season
No that was for the other one. I know fukk all about this money ball crap that keeps getting spouted about. Seems like another stick for you lot to bash FSG with.
FSG did themselves suggest they wanted to take a moneyball approach, however I haven't seen it enormously in action during their tenure and the premise is based on sabermetrics which, as much as it is an increasing buzz word in other sports, is difficult to apply to team sports such as football. In baseball individual stats count for a lot more than in a game that is incredibly team dependent (people rarely win anything with 2 top players). You have to rely on people gelling far more than you do in a sport such as baseball. So moneyball is really more the buzzword used atm (by FSG themselves in fact) but Henry and Tom described at length their admiration for Arsenal's buy young and cheaper, develop, sell on at high profit philosophy, which I suspect is what we are all actually referring to as opposed to a hard and fast money ball approach.
However, again I haven't seen this put into practice to much effect. We shot sizeable loads all over Carroll, Lallana, and a couple of others who were never going to represent sell on value. In addition we are paying hefty price tags for Europe's mid level 'top' prospects such as Markovic. Maybe FSG know as much about the philosophy as we do eh?
