I take it it's always sunshine and buttercups in sunny Suffolk Mr Wilks.

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

Jesus. Such a doom and gloom nothing is good about the club view of things. I don't know why you bother!

Are you referring to me ? When did I say I knew about this moneyball none sense I have seen the film that's about it. If you are the expert suggest you advise Liverpool FC looks like they need it this season

No that was for the other one. I know fukk all about this money ball crap that keeps getting spouted about. Seems like another stick for you lot to bash FSG with.

I've only ventured past it a couple of times in 2 1/2 years. Some of the locals I work with all say it's a proper [oops] hole!

FSG did themselves suggest they wanted to take a moneyball approach, however I haven't seen it enormously in action during their tenure and the premise is based on sabermetrics which, as much as it is an increasing buzz word in other sports, is difficult to apply to team sports such as football. In baseball individual stats count for a lot more than in a game that is incredibly team dependent (people rarely win anything with 2 top players). You have to rely on people gelling far more than you do in a sport such as baseball. So moneyball is really more the buzzword used atm (by FSG themselves in fact) but Henry and Tom described at length their admiration for Arsenal's buy young and cheaper, develop, sell on at high profit philosophy, which I suspect is what we are all actually referring to as opposed to a hard and fast money ball approach.

However, again I haven't seen this put into practice to much effect. We shot sizeable loads all over Carroll, Lallana, and a couple of others who were never going to represent sell on value. In addition we are paying hefty price tags for Europe's mid level 'top' prospects such as Markovic. Maybe FSG know as much about the philosophy as we do eh?

Ha, ha I take I'm "the other one". Anyway you should read the op more carefully I was asking if other folks on here thought they might sell, and I suggested they might as selling at a profit is part of the moneyball concept.
If that's a stick to bash FSG with, it's one they cut for their own backs as they are the ones following the moneyball concept.

Well brace yourselves folks. It's gonna happen sooner or later. I won't be surprised if we lose both Sterling and Sturridge if they have a fairly good season. The Barca's and Real's of this world do to the Liverpool's of this world what the Liverpool's of this world do to the Southampton's of this world.

Cheers for the explanation brk. I read a bit about it earlier and not really the sort of thing I understand. But from what I did understand, from the outside it doesn't seem that FSG are doing it. Yes they may like the buy young prospects and have some resale value. But there's no suggestion that they're doing it with Sterling which is where this thread started out.

Everyone has a price the other one. Ronaldo, Bale, Kaka, now Suarez. Yes they could sell him.
