Can someone please tell me how this defence -

Mignolet - Manquillo - Lovren - Sahko - Moreno

is superior to -

Reina - Johnson - Agger - Skrtel - Enrique


Reina held the record for the number of clean sheets in the Premier League whilst he was with us, and not playing Agger and Skrtel enough was why we didn't win the league last year.

I suspect that the wage bill of the two respective defence line ups is also very different.

The worrying thing is the amount of times that Lovren and Sakho go for the same ball needlessly, leaving gaps. They really need to start communicating.

I think we have a strong defence BUT our communication is terrible. This starts off with the keeper command of area? is poor he's a good shot stopper but he only opens his mouth when the mistake has happened. I hope the potential signing of valdes will strengthen this and mig can learn from 1 of the greats and improve his communication. Also 1 thing i have picked up on man marking, the defenders need to be picking up the best headers its simple. in a team your best header is usually a cb. I think are cbs are doing zonal and a few others are doing man marking. im not 100% sure if that accurate but thats what it looks like from the outside

basically, the players don't know what the f*?! they're doing. or is BR trying to implement a new brand of total football? the players aren'r being rigidly restricted to either the zonal or man to man system, maybe they've been asked to think on their feet and individually deploy whichever option feels right at the time. He could be a genius after all!

when our defence is getting hammered this badly i think its time to say right back to basics man mark if your player scores your in trouble and maybe get them doing a forefit 1000 pushups for example or red ass soemthing no one likes. that will make them defend

I still think br needs to sign a keeper , right back and a center back

I keep saying it and it gets proved game after game, the defense problems are from inept training/ drilling, the defenders are individually better but coaching is inept.

We need a defensive coach, Rodgers needs to swallow his pride and recognize his shortcomings

Agreed, and I've been saying that for some time also, if Rodgers doesn't recruit a good defensive coach that defense of ours will get him, and it could happen quicker than he realises.
