The atmosphere has been going downhill for god knows how long, but it's pretty much dead now. I can afford a ticket but I'd rather go the pub - get a bit laa with the lads.. chant, sing, swear and 'ave a good ol session at the local.. I do miss watching players off the ball, something you'll never get unless you go to the match.. but it's gotten that dire at the stadium that that's the only remaining positive. Passion & atmosphere was 50% of what drew me to football as a kid, and that's near on extinct at Anfield these days so no point going. The other 50% was a mixture of playing, euphoria & Diego Maradona Pub all day long for me kidda

Could it be because the season tickets are held by the same people and as they get older they're less vocal? Maybe if season tickets were made available for new younger people it might get a bit louder?

Where is the best place to get tickets? The last game i managed to get to was away to spurs last season and can rarely find tickets below £130 -£150 each.
Craiglist advertises tickets at more reasonable prices but I'm wary of getting ripped off!!
Any suggestions?

Maybe if season tickets were made available for new younger people it might get a bit louder? This is a point I made a few days ago on another thread. The system for the allocation of season tickets is all wrong. Whilst it's nice to reward loyal fans by giving them priority on the season tickets, it also drives up the average age of the crowd, something which is killing our atmosphere. Especially because, as it seems, the prawn sandwich brigade, as Stanley calls them, seem to all have a severe case of laryngitis.

When you got the great atmosphere in the past they were mainly young men who had a few pints before, These days the middle class professional turns up in their Lexus 30 minutes before kick off and buys a coffee and sits there in polite silence as if watching a play at the theatre. Still that's progress Unfortunately for me I cannot go to games so won't know much why Anfield is more silent now or if it is significantly silent, however, I feel that fans have lost confidence too in their players/team after continuous below par results over the last years. I am very nervous now when I watch games and 2 seasons back was almost uninterested in terms of expectations. I don't know if that could be one reasons as when you don't believe enough and worried and therefore not pumped up, you shout less. After we scored in the week, we were better, no? I would think that with success things would change, but I don't know. Faz, as I think you are the fan going to games more than anybody else here, is Anfield much more silent now and if yes do you have an explanation? for me its the same as it has been for years , full of day trippers with half and half scarfs , treating it like a museum , its the season ticket holders on the kop main and kemlyn road stands who are vocal .

Anfield was dead silent faz, no one was vocal no kop, no kemlyn road. It was as the soton fans put it a library. All I heard the other night was the roar from the bulgerian fans and I bet they were only a couple of hundred and that was in our first champions leage game back too. Its killing the excitement and enjoyment of the games.

I find this hard to believe, i am not saying you are wrong, i am just saying its hard for me to believe that's the reason. The way i see it, someone who doesn't have the opportunity to go often, a day tripper, would be even more vocal and enthusiastic about the match than those who go often.
