Weren't they reported to be having Tesco as a sponsor at one point? Blue stripe stadium is all they'll get for £200m!
Anyway, as Vish says, £200m is cheap and a quick google revealed the emirates cost £390m in 2006. That's the standard of stadium we need if we're going for a new one. This Everton one willnot be that good for £200m.

So around 200 mil for a new stadium and our reno is 170 mil ? £150m plus whatever the bill is in 20 years for rebuilding the Kop and centenary I presume another £150m more with inflation and steel prices. We are heading into a god awful mess while the rest of the clubs move forward with plans that future proof them. I am pretty sure FSG,s problem is cash flow hence the repair job

Emirates I gather cost 390m and that was a few years back with a capacity of 60k. I suppose today such a stadium will cost well above 400m, so for half the price, I am not sure what you can get.

Unless it was complications being in a congested part of the capital with all due respect to residents of Walton and anfield so I would expect to be cheaper it's not just materials for the stadium but local infrastructure and in our case that's being funded by the council that may have been different with arsenal,s situation plus Liverpool is not London

if they do get a new stadium for £200m you would think it will be very bare bones. but I don't see it ever happening unless they get a new owner

Vish I am not sure you are aware but parts of Liverpool are the most deprived in Europe housing and economically with all respect to the residents. London derives almost half of England's wealth and is one of the worlds major capitals probably only New York can compare economically

There will be minimum standards of regulation for a stadium to operate anfield under the refurb will be cramped as you will know if and when you go there. Where I sit the person behind you has their Knees in your back and you the person in front and that's in the centenary which is fairly new. Anfield is very small and was originally designed for terracing so even a cheap new build will be better than ours.

Manchester city's stadium was £110m in 2002 plus I think about £20m to convert it to a football stadium so £200m does not seem out of the way. Like I say vish don't compare London to Liverpool
