much better in the 3rd game, most solid we looked in a long time, the main problem now is the understanding between Lovern and Sakho because they are both used to playing left center back, hope they re-adjust their habits fast..
- with Skirtle and Johnson out the defensive line is more disciplined, not too high and not too deep, Adybayor would have been played in on that chance he got in the second half if those 2 were in the game.
- Manquillo is a smart tenacious defender that reads the game well, buy him already.
- Moreno is the best left back in the PL, let it sink in Liverpool have the best left-back in the PL
- the midfield shielded the back more effectively, better covering the space between the center circle and our penalty area.
- substitutions on 60 minutes kept the legs fresh in midfield.
- Emre Can gives us a physical presence we lacked in midfield, helps stop opposition attempts at gaining momentum, and he can turnover defense to attack very fast, did it plenty for Leverkouzen.

Would broadly concur but with slightly less enthusiasm! They did expose us on a number of occasions and with more clinical finishing would have scored more than once. The signs are promising though and as the new defenders bed in and Can makes that midfield area his own, we should concede less and less chances like those we gave up on Sunday.

From what I saw on Sunday the Sakho and Lovren paring is not better than Skrtel and Lovren and I wouldn't get too carried away yet, we could have been punished and more than once due to sloppy passing, we were more clinical than them.

Sakho is better at holding the line than Skirtl and is quicker to recovery, faster and more athletic
Skirtl is good but single minded and can't maintain formation, also high mistake factor and can switch off any second and defenders can't afford that.
Sakho just looks awkward with the ball but his stats are good.

Skrtel n lovren wud be my 1st choice pairing.......until br signs hummels in jan or next summer...
Lovren shud be the leader at the back and drop off wen skrtel is challenging for the ball in the air....
Lovren n sakho went for the same ball time n time again ....
Skrtel is better with the ball at his feet than sakho

Skrtel is better with the ball at his feet than sakho Sakho actually has better passing stats Lovren shud be the leader at the back and drop off wen skrtel is challenging for the ball in the air Lovren is at best when he is challenging high up and putting early pressure, he is not a sweeper, non of our defenders are, maybe just Kolo Toure, but Sakho can be the man with time, he did a solid job covering when it seemed Adybyore got through in the second half and made a brave solid tackle Skirtl would be to scared to make. Lovren n sakho went for the same ball time n time again first game together, should get ironed out. and for defenders the most important thing is holding formation and covering the space, Skirtle is good confronting directly but he is just bad at this. if you look at Chelsea defenders stats you will find them low compared to top teams but the club is still the best defensively in the PL because the formation is constantly solid.

Sakho just looks awkward with the ball but his stats are good. I would probably agree with that, but Skyrtel is a bit more solid and a more consistent tackler. He's also MUCH better going forward.

I think and hope Sakho will come good, both him and Lovren are BR signings which would suggest that this may be our defensive partnership for years to come.
We need options and cover anyway because of the amount of games so I'm sure all 3 will play a big part this season.
