I'm not one to get on players backs after a bad performance but this is something that has been going on for quite a while now. he's been consistently below average since last season and surely his place in the squad must be under question.
i don't want to make him a scapegoat for last nights loss because defensively we were very poor and even though we held on to the ball really well we never really threatened until lambert and markovic come on.
but i really feel like glen's days are numbered at liverpool and i'd like to make a few points about him and last nights game.
he looks lost when in possession he just doesn't look like a player who wants the ball or wants to do anything with it. always wants to cut inside, never gets to the byline. just passes it off to someone else. real lack of effort.
poor decision making not blaming him for the second goal it was poor defending all round. but he gets himself on the line to try and block the shot. any defender in the world would see the height of the shot and try to header it away. but not glen johnson, no... he tries to lift his leg head height to karate kick the ball away. embarrassing.
no commitment when lambert was introduced his presence in the box made us look dangerous for the first time in the match. this was a massive fixture for liverpool and even with only about 10 mins left to play we could of thrown everything at it to try and clinch a point... or at least go out fighting. how many times last year were games won, lost and drawn in the latter stages of the game?
with all 3 substitutes used johnson goes down and before the physio has even had the chance to treat or assess him, he's indicating to the bench that he has to come off. now maybe this could be a serious injury, who knows? but if its not and he's free to play against spurs at the weekend i will not be very happy. i've seen players like carra get stitched up and carry on after being knocked out, bloody, battered and bruised. even if he couldn't run, his presence at right back would have helped.
fair play to alberto moreno who even though defensively didn't have the best game his work rate was plain to see and was literally night and day between him and johnson. the lad even stayed on after seriously twisting his ankle.
i think it's astonishing to see how much he's declined as player in the last 12 months. remember this was a player that many people were calling a winger when he first joined the club. he's gone backwards in a similar fashion to fernando torres and surely now manquillo and flanaghan must be first choice. it's so sad to see how bad he's become. i never like to get on players back when he's struggling but its gone on for too long now. he's become stale and he either needs to be dropped or shipped out. i just can't see him playing his way out of this bad run of form. maybe a new challenge in his career is what he needs to kick start his form again.
thoughts?

He's pulled his thigh, so I think he'll be out of the picture now. 2 of Flanno, Moreno, and Manquillo will be playing now. I think even Can or Sakho would slot in at LB before him now, even when he comes back from injury.

He or Flannagan will have to stand and be counted. Hopefully Moreno's injury isn't serious.

thoughts? He is injured so if there is anybody better than him in the team, he is not getting back. That said, there are quite a few players like him or worse yesterday.

It was pretty disgusting seeing him come off immediately like that, and watching Moreno fight through the pain. Remind me, which one is our veteran player and seasoned international, and which one is the immature kid we just signed?

With a hamstring injury you cannot even walk while with an ankle injury you can hold but in pain.

Rodgers said he pulled his thigh. If it's a hamstring issue then fine, but that is not what was previously communicated. But the way he was calling to come off even before the trainer got there to look him over suggested a lack of commitment to me. I hope it's not to bad, but he looked like he wanted off the pitch.

Johnson should have been left on the field even if he just stood there watching City players cruise by him. The fact that he even gets game time is beyond me he generally seem to not care, gives away possession and there is no end product. We have a week loan him out or sell him or give him away for free which ever comes first.
