I'm not certain what to say about the defense. Didn't see enough of Markovic to make a fair assessment, he looked decent.Sterling looks a bit burnt out to me. Maybe with Lallana fit the team will have a bit more bite going forward. Looking forward to seeing Balotelli as well.

At 19, we shouldn't be relying on Sterling to carry us every game. He'll get jaded. He needs to be nurtured carefully.

You think? And then when he becomes great at 23 he leaves for Real Madrid?

Sterling didn't look burnt out to me, there was just a top team in front of him, City was like a machine yesterday, they look better than last year while we don't really. I feel that we have an average midfield with an ageing SG and good but not great Allen and Hendo. Coutinho and Sterling make us lightweight too. We are work in progress I suppose.

I actually didn't think we played badly

Yes we had a bad game, we looked good with the ball but like usual we can't work hard the whole 90 minutes without it

doesn't matter if we work hard without the ball for 80 minutes because in those 10 minutes we can concede 3 goals.

In big games like these we should expect narrow margins, our players think they can score anytime when they should be defending like any goal could lose us the game like a golden goal

When we conceded the first they got deflated and that caused us to concede a couple more goals, the team needs to know how to play against the ropes like ManCity did for most of first half

Also the trend of succumbing to pressure the start of the second half continues

Two of the goals were down to errors and I am not going to blame players who are new and need time to gel. Every team in this league will make mistakes and all will be beaten at some point. What we need to realize is that it is a game of chance and that attack without end product is the same as no attack at all. In the end a win or draw equates to points only.

City was playing some excellent football and they can carve open any defense if they in the mood. I can't remember one shot that troubled us before their first goal. Jovetic took his chances and players like Aguero only needs one or two chances a game.

BR went their to stifle and frustrate City and pounce on the counter it worked for most part of the first half. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and just maybe if his team choice was different the result might have been different. We bought 9 players I don't know of any team bringing in so many players and winning their leagues or cups. That said we are in it to win it and it is the second game of a 38 game season.

We need to regroup. The striker everyone on here [oops] and monad about was signed. Next game is Spurs and they are on a high but they are also suspect at the back and has a new manager with a new system and style of play. We can only take it one game at a time and we need to put our chances away. Last season is gone this here, now is what matters.

Should have stayeed at home all warm cosy and comfy like the rest of us then.
No, instead, you'd rather come in here waving yer willy around, trying to convince us that you're a more proper and well 'arf fan presumably. whistle

I don't think our midfield looked that bad. To me, we just lacked Suarez! Had he been on the pitch, the dynamic would have been quite different. Had we scored when we were on top (say twice!) the whole game would have changed course. That might have happened with an outstanding strike partnership like we had last year.

However, I think we have a chance of re-establishing some kind of threat (to other teams) if Mario and Sturridge look the business against Spurs. The problem here, is that under the new manager, the players that Spurs bought last year are now showing their pedigree and it'll be a much tougher test in all ways in the next game.

Last night we looked well short of what we were like last year where we really were able to apply pressure to every team.

The positive for me was Marko who looked really good - Moreno also looked good. If Mario can be motivated to deliver we may still recover to mount a challenge but it will require both Chelsea and Man City to fall into a malaise that looks unlikely.
