Let's be honest, we all know he is a decent talent. We also know:

-He represents the complete end of the opposite in its most extreme, if you look at the ethos BR has installed since arriving.

-His behavior leaves allot to be desired for at the best of times, did we really need this after the chaos with Luis?

- He totally lacks passion and desire and very often mopes around the pitch, can you imagine him hassling and harrying defenders, closing down, giving everything for the badge>

Leads me to 1 conclusion. We didn't prepare early enough for Luis's departure, or our main target to replace him slipped away.

As much as i am intrigued with Mario's signing, as much as i seriously hope he is a massive hit, I cant help but feel this 1 has come from pure desperation. But I don't blame anyone for this.

Luis could not have left us at a more inconvenient time. There is, quite simply put, a complete lack of world class forwards out there at the moment, not just forwards who are available, but forwards in general. You couldn't pick 5/6 players who could replace Luis, aside of Messi/ Ronaldo. Can't ever remember an era like this.

I think the balotelli deal is desperation but I am looking forward to him playing and it might work and be the catalyst we need to go one better than last year

But it was clear Suarez was leaving or that there was a huge risk of it and the LFC powers have had plenty time to plan for this

I would say mild panic rather than desperation. He's a good player at a good price and like you say, there are no real top quality players available. Will be fun if nothing else!

lets face it, you aren't going to get a better striker (based on talent) at that price on the market at moment.

i think last season our aim was to try and lure diego costa but obviously he's now been snapped up by chelsea. i think thats the problem, there seems to be more richer clubs out there willing to spend big money and pay big wages and take bigger risks. we couldn't lure him last season without CL football and after Athletico's run in the champions league he was always going to end up at a richer club.

like you said theres a lack of top class talent on the market at the moment. some of the players we've been linked with are too expensive and not quite proven in the premier league. i think its fair to say that falcoa isn't really that interested in us unless the price is right. but the lad hasn't kicked a ball for 6/7 months and has no premiership experience. for a £12m loan fee plus £200k per week wages i think its a massive risk for someone who could potentially be off the pace for the first couple of months of the season.

for the price you can't knock the balotelli deal especially if he scores like he did for milan last season. if worse comes to worst we'll be able to sell him on in a season for a similar fee so i think all in all its a great bit of business.

not the ideal scenario after losing luis suarez, but a player of his ability is just impossible to replace.

Wasn't sturridge and saurez similar in flaws but not as extreme? Was he not a bit lazy, did he not demand to play one position. The position thing not directly related but it goes to show the aditude of sturridge. Now he hustles and the other game he got moved to wing at which he had to hang back in our corner a bit. The similarity with saurez is the extra curricular activities. So maybe BR wants a bigger challenge.

I agree with you btu I don't understand with the great business going on they can afford a hefty fee but they don't want to for some reason. I m glad about we most likely won't get falco. Happy with balotelli but why not a rodrigo, son, munian all 23ish on the verge of becoming world class. Rodrigo made his move already but the other 2 are both 21 I think n i saw munian in the champs league playoff game looked awesome. Winger who could play st.. As a winger saw him hustle back n make great tackles which I never knew he could do. I don't understand why we are not linked is it bc they are in champ league too? If they miss out think we will go in for one I wonder. I also hope too. I just wanted to say there is more then these highly rate and priced players to choose from. Especially bc we already have not when high profile

The guy will succeed that I have no doubt about, and he will offer a completely different dynamic to our game. There are many similar attributes to Suarez but the point of contention (and it's iceberg size) is his demons and with it dragging LFC through the mud.

The move IS pure desperation/panic and we don't really need the negativity that Suarez more often than not brought unless we are happy being the most hated club in world football.

You have to question yet again the planning at the club in signing the most important men on the pitch- the ones who score you goals and win you the games to have to result on punting on another deeply flawed WC player.

Allow me to put forward a different point of view.

A world class striker like Ballotelli becomes available at a cut price 16mil when he is easily worth double that. He is linked to Arsenal but they get Sanchez. We are short of strikers, he wants the move, he knows he will get game time.

Would it not be foolish to let such an opportunity slip?

Perhaps it is not desperation, perhaps it is just good business sense. Especially if the rumours that we are still trying to thrash out a loan for Falcao are true. Etoo would have spelled "desperation" to me, Ballotelli does not.

Just my opinion.
