we might settle for 2nd this season, but no one can deny that Liverpool vastly improved under Rafa, and especially this season.

The most important thing that improved is out self-belief. never say never. the way we always fight back is how champions should play. we have problems upfront, we have problems at the back, but we still are trying over and over again to win every match no matter how hard the task was.

We also have very promising young players, Spearing, Nemeth, Pacheco, and others. also, most of our first team players are either at their peak, or did not reach their peak yet.

Carragher, Riera, Mascherano and Aurelio's bad performance today is their loss, but is Skrtel/Agger, Spearing, Babel and Insua's gain. I hope the competition would keep us going even further up the table. if not this year, then next season is a must.

Agreed! I never expected us to get this close this season. When the whole ownership affair was up in the air a few people were saying our demise was similar to Leeds... well we've pulled together and are looking the best we have done for a while. I like Liverpool's spirit and our style of play at the moment.

I just think there are a few holes to fill (support for Torres, a decent winger and another LB/RB) as well as holding on to Alonso and Agger before we can push on for the title. I'm extremely doubtful now as to whether we will win any silverware this season but at least we can look forward with optimism.

I agree with you annefield(love the name)we just need some quality in those areas on the left/right of defense and midfield and we'll be right there. It's looking like next season now but you never know united are looking tired. It's important we make the right signings in the summer.

Its so plain and simple to see what we need in our squad. Wide area's in defense and midfield. More importantly a winger is a must. We know Rafa is after a winger now.

And I think the right back position is a priority, Arboloa proved today, he is far too slow. Aurelio did have a bad game, but he is clearly the consistant performer on the left for us, and also Insua has been great when he been playing.

Future is bright. Future is Rafa.

Well said Saud. I'm extremely excited about the future. We really have a side now that can seriously challenge for the title every year. Before we were just hoping to be close enough to challenge. Next season we will be the ones who everyone else is chasing.

If anyone said at the start of the season we would still be in the Prem race in April we all would have taken it and it's good to see that we are. United are still shaky and although it is very difficult now we are still a slight chance.
Regardless of this we should all be axcited about the future even if we won't win any silverware this year. Definately need cover for Torres, a right winger, and cover at left back but the development of the team and squad under Rafa has been sensational. With people like King Kenny coming to the club) this wil continue.
Here's to a very bright future and many successful seasons ahead.

I'll drink to that!

Then again I'd crack a beer open for the opening of a book!

yes we need all those things and perhaps some more but considering what Rafa and his staff have had to deal with this season ie the awful mess in the boardroom, contracts and lack of funds I'd say they have worked bloody miracles!!!
add to that the injuries to our best and most influential players then it just shows what has been achieved.

... and I for one have not thrown the towel in yet!!! football's a funny old game as the saying goes... there's going to be a few more surprises yet - I just hope they favour us for once.

Emperor thank god you aren't really Rafa! If we employed all the suggestions you put forward on here we wouldn't be struggling for fourth, we'd be fighting off relegation! Your "logic" is really difficult to fathom.

one things being a good player, the other is whether he'd fit in the team. That's why signings never come with a guarantee and why EVERY manager screws up sometimes.
