For a country with so many prizes at club level to have such a poor international record, it means that the football association are, and have always been, a bunch of losers.

I’d say you’re right about the coaching at the grass roots level box, and not just in England, it’s the same in Ireland Scotland and Wales, go to any school or local youth football club and all you can hear are “coaches” screaming at the kid’s to “pass it”, “pass it” “pass it”!
The kid’s aren’t allowed to develop any ability on the ball, in stark contrast to Spanish, Italian and south american kid’s. Needs to change. I know there are other factors at work as well, but I agree that’s one.

My youngest plays at u14 level. He is not the best but he loves the game and he has got a good engine on him and will track back when others dont and will pass when he sees a team mate in space. Problem is the blokes who run it have their sons in the team. The regular lino has his son in the team. The woman who organises the kit has her son in the team. The bloke who does the match report has his son in the team. My lad turns up for training every week and never gets a full game. When he gets taken off the team does not do as well and nobody tracks back. But he goes because he loves it.

This sort of thing goes on everywhere. Every league has the same problems. There is cheating and abuse of teenage referees from adults and it is a disgrace. Everybody gets away with everything because at the top we have Rooney who can swear kick spit and foul and nothing gets done about it. Our kids think its ok to do the same. The FA lost control of the game it runs years ago.

You could almost be talking about the same club one of my sons played for (good few years back now) (E)SSO, the exact same thing went on there too, and it’s so frustrating and so unfair to the child. Adults like that shouldn’t be let near any sporting ground. It’s high time the fa’s in all these countries got a grip on what’s going on at the grass roots.

Top post and very true the world over.

I know a lot of talented lads who sacked football off due frustration like this. It pisssed me off then & it still pissses me off now. Hope your lad can play down a level and just play for the love of it - you'd be surprised how quick fortunes can change given the age he's at. Best of luck tho smile
