The problem is, he won't be, simply because of the American owners that everyone has criticised so much (though in my opinion, they don't derserve nearly so much as Benitez does). They are disconnected with the club and probably still believe that most supporters blindly follow Benitez as they did up to 12 months or so ago, before being forced to acknowledge his incompetence. They won't risk further angst or disquiet among the fans. Benitez is no doubt happy to keep picking up his obscene wages come what may, and therefore definitely won't resign, so this is it people - we're stuck with the clown and his favourites for the foreseeable future. Though I'd like to think that anyone with the financial acumen to purchase the club from Hicks and Gillete will also immediately recognise it is in desperate, agonising need of a new manager.

Todays result isnt as bad as it seems. Although the performance was awful its still not a bad point against a side that hasnt lost at home since September and lets not all forget the Man City where playing a team yesterday who are more or less relegated.

Chin up people 4 spot is still in our sights wink

sorry murph but it most definitely isn't in our sights. this was a bad result, only thing that counted today was 3 points and we didn't get them. 4th is gone. city 4 points ahead with one game in hand, it's over.

It is a really uphill task as both teams ahead have games and points in hand. The midfield today was a joke...no player took it by the scruff of the neck and made the midfield his own. McFadden with his old legs had Lucas's number.
With Torres off, Babel,Maxi,Ngog wasted gilt edged chances..a better team than Birmingham would take advantage of the spineless midfield which I think is going to happen in the next few games.
New owners and a new manager or we are gonna be scrambling above the relegation zone next season

I am sick to death of the Torres being subbed story. I've seen Gerrard's look when he came off & Torres' expression when he was asked by Gerrard why was he coming off. Everyone seems to automatically believe that the manager was off his head & took a risk. Does anyone actually believe what Rafa said. Was he exhausted?

It seems almost everywhere i hear this story, be it word of mouth, in the papers, on the radio, on here, they all have the same outcome. Rafa was wrong & he should be sacked.

Personally, I find it hard that Rafa took him off because of exhaustion. Another 10 minutes instead of Ngog seems to be a risk worth taking, but what if 10 minutes later he tore his hamstring. We would be cursing our luck & the odd 1 or 2 people would blame Rafa that he would be out for the rest of the season.
Does anyone actually think that Gerrard was disgusted because he knew he would have to take on Birminghamon his own, rather than because of Rafa's decision? Torres could have easily been [oops] off because he wanted to play on, like any other footballer would. However, this is why we have a manager to make these decisions. If Ngog had scored one of those chances this story would have been buried.

The bottom line is everyone is having a go because we have had a crap season, but laying all our cards on the table to beat Birmingham at the risk of losing Torres for the season is daft.

i agree we probably reacted this way because of the crap season, but as you said yourself torres looked surprised which means he wasn't feeling any pain or so. and losing him for the rest of the season? there's not many games left and every game is like a cup final, we need to win every game and therefore there's no excuse for the sub yesterday...

Didn't see the game, but did McFadden (he's only 26 mate...if that's old then I'm f...ed), really play down the middle for Birmingham or are you just getting a dig in at Lucas ?
