“Whatever you say say nothing”! That’s all very well Lain, but Dunk doesn’t have to face the lynch mob in my local, to explain what the F--- I was doing rooting for the unmentionables!
Anyway I’ve cooled down now Lain and trying to forgive!!! The forgetting bit is a longer term project! As regards pain for gain, I have the pain but where’s the gain? Incidentally, that recalls some lovely words of A.E. Housman:
"When first my way to fair I took
Few pence in purse had I,
And long I used to stand and look
At things I could not buy.
Now times are altered: if I care
To buy a thing, I can;
The pence are here and here’s the fair,
But where’s the lost young man?
To think that two and two are four
and neither five nor three,
The heart of man has long been sore
And long ’tis like to be.”
Those last two lines express my pain you mention precisely Lain!
