I for one was amazing and please with the way we played football yesterday and how much a threat we looked all over the pitch. But what amazed me more is why haven't we done this for most of the season, where instead we have been looking to bore opposition to death instead.
The first thing is having Steven in the middle where he can influence a game, if you think it suits him look at the level of performance he gave in that role compared to normal. The other is license to play which Rafa doesn't seem to like to do. I think it shows that with the right tactical approach we can still be a force in this league.
Agreed. We played like how we played last season. With Lucas off the pitch, we looked like a side with at least a bit of ideas. As much as Aquilani is a sicknote, he's still a much better option than Lucas.
The difference was the immense pressure we applied on sunderland right up to their defence. I haven't seen that kind of commitment since last year. We defended from the top all the way down to CB. We gave them no room to move or breathe. That's the way we should have played.
With that came confidence. Confidence to try different things from the players. Even babel is starting to run at players and fulfill his potential. He's still not there yet but at least he's having the confidence to be adventurous.
If we can play like that for the remaining 6 games, I think we can get all 18 points and finish 4th.
