Brendan Rodgers is impressed with Joao Teixeira and could offer him a chance in the first team.

The talent in Liverpool's youth ranks is not limited to the impressive Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe, both who have broken through into the first team.

Another tipped to join them is Joao Teixiera, who manager Brendan Rodgers has been talking glowingly about earlier today.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I have contact with Alex Inglethorpe on a daily basis and Joao has been one of the outstanding performers for the reserves.

"I always observe in training and see where players are at and Joao has looked very good. His intensity, the speed of his game – he has undoubted quality and he has showed up very well. We have brought in a number of young players to be around the squad."

Teixieira was signed from Sporting Lisbon two seasons ago for £800,000 but injuries and a poor loan spell at Brentford seemed to curtail his progress.

He has been in superb form for the under-21s this season, scoring five goals in seven games.

Teixeira is a left winger capable of also playing centrally, and now would be an opportune time for him to make his breakthrough into the Liverpool first team.

Liverpool attempted to sign winger Yevhen Konoplyanka on deadline day, but their failure to do so may yet provide a youngster like him with an avenue to force his way into the first team.

With Liverpool competing for the FA Cup and Premier League, the extra impetus a talented youngster could provide could be ideal, and with the team high on confidence, now is the time at which a player like Teixeira could thrive.

His contract is currently set to expire in June, but Rodgers' comments appear to hint it's a certainty he will be offered a new one if he continues his progression between now and the end of the season.

Yeah he's clearly one of the standout players in the academy.

Comparing him to the previous Academy players, I would consider him to be like Pacheco and Eccleston. There's a lot of talent there, but will he be adapt to the roughness of the Premier League is the real question. It all would come down to development and using his skills. Like Sterling, Coutinho, Suso are not physically tough players, but they have other attributes which can be utilized. We will have to wait to see, because Brad Smith got the nod ahead of him as of lately, so we will compare when the time comes.

I think he was injured for awhile and just got back a month or two ago. I'm pretty sure we got him from Sporting Lisbon when he tore us up in the Under 21's Champions League. It's nice to see he's progressing.

Tex definitely looks like the real deal, but he could still turn out to be another Suso.

That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.
