Problem is tho would they perform like that with SG in the team ? so far they haven't spurs game was the most confident midfield I have seen in our team all year and harassed the hell out of spuds

I would wait for a couple of games to draw conclusions. Yes we played well, probably our best away game since BR's appointment, but was it all us or a very bad Spurs on the day? One game is not enough for me to know for sure.

Agreed, I wasn't suggesting that they might regress but why would it take our captain and best midfielder (by a country mile) to be out injured for others to 'raise their game'. I understand the logic to the idea but it's still annoying, why don't they try their hardest/best 100% of the time?

I wouldn’t say they don’t play 100% when Gerrard plays I just think that because of the stature he holds they feel that the game needs to go through him.

Perhaps the team is just better without SG. I'd play the same team against Cardiff and if they win that one, I'd play the same team against City. In order to build confidence in the other midfield players, SG has to be left out until the team fails to win. If he's brought back in before that, it's as good as saying that SG is an automatic selection because he's the best. After Sunday, that is in doubt and he should have to wait his turn. That's how Rodgers can instil confidence in the others.

While I can agree to this, unfortunately, he is the captain and the only time a captain does not play is when he is injured or suspended or even sick.

It will be strange for him to be fully fit and warming the bench as the captain of the team.

I dont think he should walk into the team right away if players are playing good in his position. Look at are vice captain for instant. What messegae does it bring to say no matter how good you play your going to be replaced.

What we are learning this season is to play the passes intelligently. That's has improved. Sometimes to feet sometimes a few feet in front of the man to get him on to the ball with speed.

Players like sturridge, Suarez Gerard and coutinho are all excellent passes and players like sterling Henderson are starting to run into space and use their natural abilities.

Our passing can still get better but I was impressed with the pressing. Let's see how we fair against Ramires and co and the ultimate test of yaya toure and fernandinho
