My view on the match was although there were 6 goals, i was unimpressed and not surprised at all by the team and individual performances. Many have lauded the game as great to watch and exciting. for me, a liverpool side that struggles to put together more that 5 passes and invites the opposition to come at them through the centre of the pitch leaves me constantly shaking my head. Our midfield is a joke though. Allen is a mouse, Hendo is a puppy chasing seagulls on the beach, Gerrard mostly walks for 90 minutes and fails to inspire the side and Lucas seems to think that yellow cards are a good thing. what has happened to our passing and running? why are we prepared to defend deep and leave a massive hole in the middle for sides to attack us and why do we fail to press high up the pitch? the player selection for this game was also questionable. Agger and Skrtle are not a good central defending combination. Agger is a great player but needs a reliable smart partner which Skrtel is not. Surely Toure should have been selected for this game?
The manager made poor staring selections and poor substitutions.
Allen is clearly not good enough. Light weight, no confidence. Surely Luis Alberto could have started or replaced him. Gerrard was woeful in this game, he was often left watching play as it moved upfield and past him in defence. Everton were quite good i thought and deserved to win it, if not for SAS and Mignolet they would have.
sigh.

Calm down calm down.
It's not that bad. I just watched it through again and Allen had a decent game until his miss.
Although a lot of the play deep in our own half was comical, as far as I could see Dagger (individually) did nothing wrong all game and Skrtel only had problems in the last 20 minutes when the game opened up and he had Lukaku running in behind him - which in itself should not pose a problem, but combined with the fact we had no one in front of him making the through balls difficult made his job impossible.
I, like you, am concerned about our ability to press as a unit though. Without the ball we were too deep providing too much space in midfield, and with the ball we kept getting caught too high up allowing quick counter-attacks to go straight through us.

What we need is someone in the mold of Yaya Toure who can hold up play in midfield and prevent those quick counter attacks which are very unnerving for central defenders.

I'd keep Hendo. Allen and maybe Lucas I'd move on. Trouble is though, getting much better quality replacements will be very hard.

I think our main problem is the midfield as SG cannot play as he used to, Leiva is not great under pressure and Allen was nervous probably coming back after so long in such a game was always going to be difficult. That said, it appeared to me that we try to complicate our game too much and it was so obvious that Everton just kept it simple. The best player on the field for me was Ross Barkley and by a mile and I don't understand why Everton can develop such local and not us.

Because they have the patience to play their local talent, and they don't have the money we do to buy as much foreign talent. I think Barkley will end up at United though.

I agree about us playing off and letting the other team run at us. Makes no sense at all. Palace pressured Everton when they played and gave them no time. Made them look very average.
We are far too slow in midfield. You can't play Lucas and Gerrard together we get bullied by the other teams midfield. This just puts even more pressure on our centre halfs and with the angles agger is playing with at the moment it's a recipe for disaster.
Allen needs to go. As well as Lucas, who just seems to live giving momentum sapping free kicks in good areas. Much rather see Alberto in there. Still does my head in why we let Jonjo go, there's your young developed talent! No patience with the guy. Scored a ripper game winner for Swansea this weekend.
Barkley will be good but will get a rep for flopping if he's not careful
