It's nice to see us near the top of the table again, in and around the top 4, winning games we should be winning and playing some good and sometimes great stuff too.

However, I suggest that if we looked at it like a school teacher the report would read something like:

'B+. a good start to the season but wouldn't have expected anything less. Needs to eradicate the minor slip ups and beware as the tougher exams lie ahead of us. Well done so far, but need to keep focussed and keep it going'.

I say that on the basis that all our wins are one's we'd expect except the home win over you know who. We got 2 points more than we perhaps hoped for at best. On the otherside, we dropped 3 points at home to Southampton and I reckon 2 more points away to Newcastle - esp as they were down to 10 men and we were winning. I think the other results are fair hence suggest we have net 3 points less than we could reasonably have expected to have got by now.

Would agree with you, thought we would draw the United game, but then, United is a question mark this season.

I'd say B+ feels fantastic... but strictly speaking isn't necessarily so. Don't get me wrong - I welcome it, but we must admit we've had a kind fixture list to stat with this year.

I don't think we were expecting a C before the season started. Yes, we were dreading a C and wouldn't have been surprised to get one, but we always expect more.

The Christmas fixture list isn't so kind to us though - away to Chelsea and Man City in the space of three days. If we get to and through those fixtures in good shape then we can start dreaming smile

I'd like to see this scoring system used to show how the rest are getting on.

I think we have a real chance in getting in to the top 4 this season. We still haven't played to the best of our ability yet plus with a couple of good january signings it will make us even better.

agree with the great chance we have, but the factors you've mentioned are BIG ifs.

- how do we know we haven't played at our best yet? 11 games in, if we're not doing it now maybe there's a reason and chances are we're unlikely to play much better on a consistent basis.

- there are no guarantees we'll get good signings in Jan

In addition, we've not played too many big/difficult games yet and the hectic winter schedule may yet expose our lack of strength in depth.

Hence, whilst I agree we have a great chance, I believe there will be difficulties ahead and we'll have done extremely well if we're still in 2nd place come February.

I'd give us an A-. We have only lost to Arsenal and a Southampton side that is playing very very well while we have picked up nearly maximum points in the games we would expect to win. I say games that we expect to win, but these are the games than in recent years we have tripped up in and also the games that many of the teams around us have also dropped points (man u home to west brom, spurs home to west ham/newcastle, chelsea home to west brom etc).

Plenty of very tricky games coming up that will really test us but so far so good.

A- is a shade too generous I think. No shame in losing to Arsenal, but we didn't compete and BR didn't show any tactical nous in that game. Similarly, there should be no excuse for losing to Southampton at home, except for bad luck perhaps, but if I remember correctly that wasn't the case.
