I don't think Suso and Gerrard play in the same position, you should rather compare with Hendo and Moses when they played as the attacking mid-field. Suso anyway has better stats than them both, but it's not in the same league. Aspas had great stats last season in Spain but is struggling massively in the EPL whise Silva and Mata are doing great. So difficult to say.

Yeah, except Suso has already played in the EPL and impressed last season. He's been playing and living in England for years. I don't think the switch will be nearly as complicated.

I was not too impressed, if he did impress why do you think BR loaned him out, as we are actually short of an attacking midfielder when Coutinho is not playing.
probably wished he had me when phillip got injured

Because there are 3 midfielder slots to be filled currently by Hendo, Gerrard, Allen, Alberto, Lucas, and Coutinho, and even Aspas (who had an excellent pre-season and we thought would be starting). We could use Suso sometimes, sure, but he'd stall his development. Right now he's getting real experience.

Regarding Suso's performances last year, he did very well when he appeared, much better than Aspas has, in my opinion. considering he was an 18 year old playing out of position he id very well, but he was still a bit raw and unpolished. That's what this loan is for. I think he may have a shout at some regular appearances next season.

Well said.

Where would you like to see him play?

Personally, I think Gerrard needs to be rested more often, and Suso looks to be the best candidate for that role. He may not start very often, but Gerrard's influence seems to wane once we get to the 70th minut or so, and Suso would be a good sub. I also think he'd a good Coutinho deputy. A cup midfield of Lucas, Henderson, and Suso looks pretty good to me, and it would let us keep Gerrard and Phil fresher.

Sorry, can't see Suso in Gerrard shoes, may be in Coutinho's, but, if Alberto has been bought and Suso sent on loan, unless he develops massively and provided he can cope with the physicality of the EPL, can't see him making a big impact.

You're misunderstanding me if you think I said he should fill Stevie's shoes. I was talking about being his understudy. Gerrard is and will be the starter, but we need multiple players for each position, especially if we're playing in the champion's league next season. Gerrard should not be playing in cup matches, especially in the early stages, and Gerrard should be taken off when he gets tired (as he has gotten multiple times this season).

In regards to his development, I don't know if you've been watching him lately, but he's put on about 10 pounds of muscle by the looks of it. He's a much more physically capable player now (though that was a weakness of his last year). He's also looked much more assured, much more confident, and much more dangerous on the ball; the numbers show this.

No haven't watched him, but will do now. In which position is he playing in Spain? I thought he was playing attacking midfielder as opposed to Gerrard who is closer to defending with long passes forward these days.

He's bounced around a bit. He's played some right wing and some CAM, but in the Valencia game he looked more like a box to box man, and did a good job of pulling stings from deeper parts of the pitch, with the occassional burst forward (not unlike Gerrard's game against west brom).

One of the most impressive games I've seen him in was in the U20 world cup a couple months ago, in which he played a deeper role, pinging very Gerrard like passes. He has the touch and the vision for it, but we'll see how the rest of his season goes.

I think that loaning our young players to English sides (lower ranking premier league or championship) is far more beneficial than sending them out to another league.

I do wish we would loan more to EPL clubs, but I think you're wrong about the championship. How could playing in the championship against the mighty QPR, Leister, or Blackpool be better experience than playing against Barca, Real or Atletico? I know there are concerns about the physicality of the English game, but you can't seriously think that he'd be better off playing for a championship side?
