I think we can all agree that we don't know what's going on. But we're all entitled to an opinion.
As far as I can tell one of the following must be true - so which do you actually think represents the truth behind our recent transfer activity?
Hopefully a poll will appear here: (first time I've done this!)

By the way, I'm really pleased we got Alberto and Aspas, I think they represent really good value and this isn't meant to slate them. But I think the question is still justified.

I voted other as I don't think that BR's priorities are in those position. Lamela could have become a priority if Suarez had left and BR has with Coutinho (who will be moved in the centre if he gets a winger), 5 players for 3 midfield positions. Aspas and Alberto were bought as squad players and BR wants rather to spend on a winger and a centre half as first team players. That said, if we do not buy first team players by the end of the window, it will just mean that there was no transfer funds for anyone but squad players

I don't buy this "squad players" nonsense. If we don't want them (Alberto and Aspas) to play regularly why did we buy them? If we do want them to play regularly, we must think they are better than other options, or we couldn't afford other options, or other options didn't want to come. Do you see what i'm saying? It must be one of the options listed. I've not referred to CB position in the post. But - if it's one or the other (a CB or winger), then that's covered by option 1 - we don't have the cash.

You have a point by saying that you need 22 players who are of equivalent quality to fit in the first team whenever required, basically to keep everybody fit all the time and to cater for any injuries. However, no team has enough resources to have 22 top quality players, not even Real Madrid or City, though they do come close to it. In our case, with even less resources, we can only afford 11 good players with a few top ones and the rest would be of lower quality squad players who might come top players with time but are good enough to do a job when required, though with less certainty.

BR has stated that he would like 17-18 players who expect to play every week, and the rest should be younger players fighting to make a name for themselves. He also said Alberto and Aspas were for the squad. Mixed messages. I like the look of both Alberto and Aspas, but I would rather have had Lamela (prefer Ljajic actually) and Eriksen. I would understand if the club turned round and said we didn't have enough money, but they keep saying we have. It makes me a little concerned about our scouting team/transfer committee, which up until this last week were making a very good impression on me.

I think that the having money statement means nothing but only in investor's jargon, meaning, we can always find the money if the return is good.

I think we were interested in both Lamela and erikson but I don't think we have the money to sign a 21year old for 30mil and I think with no European football this year, players want to show off their abilities in Europe especially in a World Cup year.
Spurs can offer European football and probably higher wages and a better squad. Most neutral would choose spurs.

I voted for other as I don't think BR wanted them to begin with.

I voted for other as I don't think BR wanted them to begin with. Your reasoning is equivalent to Option 2, surely - he didn't want them equates to there being better available, i.e. Alberto & Aspas. Either BR or the transfer committee. Perhaps I should have worded it to leave it a bit more open.
