Reading this from Metro but most news sources have reported it.

http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/29/steven-ger...-clash-3941868/

I read the piece as a thinly veiled swipe at FSG. In his final year or two he must be thinking it's H & G all over again in regard failed signings and promises.

Gerrard is rarely anything but the diplomat but I sense he's as fed up as most of us. Early promise and then the rug pulled from under BR yet again?

Could be wrong but it is an unusual response to give just days from this game. I don't think I've heard him make such a statement previously?

Given the context of the other interview, it might be more an admission of guilt. He basically said "it's our fault Kolo's hurt because we took our feet off the gas an let it go to extra time." It could be a swipe at FSG though. Who knows?

Going by the quotes he didn't say they weren't looking forward to the match or are in bad shape.

"The extra time in midweek was exactly what we didn’t want really," said Gerrard.

"A lot of players that are going to be starting on Sunday have played too much football because I think the plan was to get the game won, done and dusted, then rest a few for United.

I think when you’ve got a lot of inexperience in the team you take your foot of the gas and punished. That’s what happened.

There is no doubt about it that extra time – playing that amount of minutes – is a bit of a blow to us this week."

He just said what everyone knows. Playing 120 minutes four days before United is not ideal and kind of a blow. Where are you guys getting this idea he took a swing at FSG?

People want some mud to throw at them. Maybe it is a swipe, but I don't think so.

I know playing 120 mins on Tuesday wasn't an ideal scenario, but to be fair, they're professional athletes (most of whom are under 25), they will have had 5 days to recover and they are 3 games into the season. Tiredness should not be an issue, and cannot be used as an excuse if we perform badly on Sunday.

Maybe, maybe not. What I found surprising was that Gerrard would usually take the positive and rally the troops kind of line that a club expects a captain to do. I just found it a measured and realistic statement for a team that are obviously well short of quality bodies and for me that is what he is saying without saying it smile

agree with this, I think Gerrard is standing back in disbelief at the lack of transfer activity for 1st team players as all of our rivals spend tens of millions

The only Rivals that are spending loads is Spurs, City and Chelski. The last two always do and Spurs only doing now because of the Bale transfer.

Just ask yourself this question. If the team was that of a few seasons ago with Mascerano, Alonso, Torres, Kuyt, Pepe, Carra etc etc etc

Do you think Steve would have even given an interview before this game, let alone be making excuses up front?

No way, he wouldn't have to as the team would still be good enough for a good draw and also want to be showing that weakness to the Mancs.

So, why has he? And I guess that's the purpose of the thread.

Feel sorry for SG, he is bigger than the club and is going to be the best player LFC have had in living memory to have never won a title.

Not meaning to derail the thread with that last statement btw.

Tiredness should not be an issue, I agree, but the issue is that we do not have 2 proper Centre Halves, because we are still trying to find a good player who matches the committee's valuation.
