it must be hard to be an arsenal fan these days.

We were like that after the first game last year and we wouldn't have been very far if that penalty had gone in. I don't think we should get carried away by thinking that we are in a much better position than Arsenal right now. Let's wait for at least the first 5 games I would say.

Did 99% of fans want Rafa out?

If they did (and from what I could see it was definitely the majority), they were proved very wrong. Arsenal fans - like us when we sacked our best manager in a generation - should be careful what they wish for. They will need to have one hell of a manager in mind if they're going to get rid of Wenger!

And if they do decide to spend serious money, there will be no guarantee of success - just ask Leeds fans, CL semi-finalists in 2001, relegated 2003-04.

For me, the only way to guarantee your clubs long-term well-being are by being sensible in the transfer market, developing a strong youth set-up, keeping a sustainable wage structure and ensuring you have a quality manager. Not easily combined with competitiveness with the likes of Chelsea and City.

You shouldn't compare Arsenal with Leeds, Arsenal is one of the richest clubs in the world and what fans are seeing is that the big money they are spending (Arsenal has the highest ticket price) is not being spent by their manager/owner on quality players and this is why they can only get to top 4 (only just for 2 seasons) without winning any trophies for a decade now. They have also been selling their best players regularly. Arsenal has some 70m in the coffers apparently and all that is thanks to the fans. Who wouldn't be unhappy?

Fair point Vish, Leeds are not a great example to use. I just think spending isn't always the answer - especially as it seems the Arse are not particularly great at identifying good value players for their starting 11. I think Wengers caught between 2 systems (he wants to play like Barca, but keeps buying players that can't/won't press. It's at times like this i'm glad we now have a manager with a clear vision. Whether he will prove capable of implementing it is another question, but he certainly deserves plenty of time on current evidence.

You asking me? Jealous? no. Annoyed? Yes. I just think these billionaire owners are having a negative impact on football - and my club especially. Feel sorry for Wenger, a top class football coach/manager in a world distorted by odd-ball billionaires laundering their money through randomly chosen football clubs.

I have no doubt that Wenger is lost in the the ridiculously over-inflated market (unlike BR and AVB, for example, who are really trying to cope, imo), but let's make one thing clear, the artificial hyper-reality that has been created by the plastic billionaires is NOT good for football and especially not the fans (for a good explanation read this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footbal...the-absurd.html).

How many clubs need to gamble their existence to compete before we say enough is enough? Clearly FFP is a load of bllcks if City and PSG are allowed to compete in the CL this season. How much were the stadium rights to the Etihad bought for by the company (that has never posted a profit, incidentally) run by the owners brother - GBP400 million? It's a joke that that was allowed to pass.

And let's not forget that we are suffering because of this more than Arsenal. Just because we won our opening game and they didn't, doesn't mean we're A-ok.

Come on Liverpool, Spurs, The Arse and even (can't believe it even though I type it) Manure, let's get Chelsea and City out of the Top 4 and rid ourselves of their ridiculous owners ruining the game.

rant over.

I understand your position but then I have a different perspective of the whole billionaire owner issue.

United is blessed with the fact that they have the biggest fan base in the world and if they didn't have owners ripping them off (through interest payments and dividends) they would be in position of buying like City and Chelsea. We have a relatively big fan base but the club has been mis-managed for ages, Arsenal are building from their own resources because their owners see the club as an investment which will be bringing returns eventuallly.

Should we really blame owners who are spending their own money to improve their asset (or toy if your prefer) like Abramovich and Sheik Abu Dhabi, while Arsenal, United and LFC owners (all Americans btw) want self sustained clubs who eventually can pay returns (the Glazers are already there)?

Talking about Fair Play, is it fair that United could spend more than anybody else a decade back because thay had the biggest fan base in the world (before that Abramovich bought Chelsea)? At the end of the day, any money a club can spend comes from the fans directly or indirectly (tv money and sponsorship) and if you have a billionaire as a fan (Abramovich), I can't see anything wrong with that, all fans spend according to their means, including the Chelsea and City fans, even if they are owners.

Liverpool seem to be living in the stone ages. a mate of mine who helped Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City with their Asian tours spoke well of the highly structured and professional mindset of Chelsea and citeh. As for liverpool, he had an impression that certain department was still lagging behind citeh and Chelsea but the mindset was particularly astonishing. And he is a massive Liverpool fan.
