Yes we need a couple of quality players, two I think might do it for that 4th spot. Villa have a better cutting edge than Stoke imo and our defense will be tested, even more than we were today. But I think we can win that one also.

I would like a clinical striker, but then, he would play ahead of Sturridge and may be Suarez as we play with one striker, so mixed feelings there, unless of course Suarez and Sturridge become clinical.

How can you destroy a team 1-0. It could have very easily been 1-1, would you have made this thread then?

Don't get carried away, we beat a team who will be fighting against relegation this season without Pulis. We still have 37 games to go and there are teams playing a lot better than us.

The same underlying problems are still there and a number of teams would have exposed us today.

We won't easily get top 4 either, we will be extremely lucky to even finish 6th.

Could of easily been 6-2 to us also. We controlled the game very well for 3/4 of it. Thought we showed confidence and were a constant threat. Towards the end they started getting into it, but if it wasn't for their keeper the score line would look a whole lot different.

We still have 2 major problems, finishing our chances (usually against teams well organised at the back) and we are exposed defensively (on the counter and set pieces). There is another thread saying that our problem is Agger now, common, that's nonsence.

Our problem is not the defender but our overall defensive system, BR is an attacking coach unlike Benitez, Mourinho but quite close to Wenger and Pep. It will always be; can we score at least one more that the opponent? (as they will always have good chances of scoring (except the smaller teams)). For this system to work well we need to have clinical finishers. Barca with this system will struggle without Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro etc who are very skillful to put it in. If you watch Barca playing you'll see that that number of chances they miss is huge.

I think the game showed the team is a notch better than the one that started the previous season. But until we have a midfield maestro who can dominate the middle of the park, and until we have current of additional players who have the talent to get to the bi-line and cut the ball back for strikes on goal, we will continue to struggle to break down an organized defence and I cant see us finishing higher than 6th.

Have to say that after seeing some of the other goals from the other games, man, we were easily up against the best goal keeper of the day, and a very good defense.

Some of other goals from the day were so weak. Begovic would have stopped lots of them.
