The Swedish LFC site reports that we have apparently played a closed friendly against Newcastle today! shocked

Here it goes:

Liverpool won behind closed doors

After the Celtic game on Saturday, it was revealed that Liverpool would face Newcastle in a friendly match behind closed doors on Tuesday. Liverpool won the match 3-1.
Daniel Sturridge scored two goals, including one on a penalty. Luis Alberto was also noted for one goal and Newcastle got a consolation goal in the final minute.

According to several sources on twitter, Daniel Agger was back in the squad, and has apparently got rid of the injury he suffered in the game against Olympiacos.

Here is the team:

First half: Jones, McLaughlin, Sama, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Teixeira, Ibe, Alberto Coutinho, Sturridge

Second half: Jones, McLaughlin, Kelly, Sama, Flanagan, Henderson, Alberto, Ibe, Borini, Teixera, Sturridge.

Good result, but strange to playe a closed friendly that close to the season start. Has it ever happened before?

Yeah I read somewhere that it was designed to get Daniel Sturridge match fit. It's not uncommon to play behind closed doors friendlies in the run in to the start of the season, I think Man United played one last week.

Agreed!

I've heard of closed friendlies before, but not this close to season start.

I mean it sounds a bit risky to play a game this close to Sunday. What about injuries?

Never mind though, it seems to have worked out OK for us anyway! smile

Surprised FSG passed up an opportunity to charge us for a game....... whistle

Pete: Berg, I'm just not cut out to be a good person.
Berg: I know. That's why the Lord gave us good looks.

Looking at those line ups I would imagine there was perhaps an element of Coutinho playing in the number 10 role that has been discussed in the media in the last week or so. Of course with no Suarez available for the first few games and Sturridge only just getting back to fitness the opportunities to try this out in a match situation have been limited.
