Agreed Joel... we do need a striker. A proven world class one for around the 20 million mark (Keane's price!!!).
Eto'o anyone? He plays as a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 (granted he has messi and henri as part of the "3" - but he can play the lone striker role, which Keane never could).

come on emperor. we need a 20 million striker, not two 5-6 million ones. we only got rid of Baros and Cisse a couple of seasons ago.

We need a back up target man/lone striker as the only ones we have are Torres and Ngog. Gerrard is not an option as a lone striker when Torres is injured and nor are the others you have suggested. That was were Keane didn't fit in. We have enough people that can sit off the back of the strikers. Hey, what about Viduka? (covers as the fruit starts flying at his head  )

We need someone who will sit on the bench Carra, think we can all agree that Gerrard/Torres should be our forward line as long as both are fit.
a £20 million player isn't going to come in to be on the bnch for 30 league games a season, Tuncay, Carew and Owen are all decent shouts, proven in the prem and would probably happily accept being part of a squad.

It'll be interesting to see who Rafa brings in.
I will concende we need someone for Torres' backup, but we got Robbie Keane in for 20M to be part of a rotation policy (or a pawn in a power struggle).
Even £20M players have to accept they won't play every game.
even so - if we get a £20M striker, I'd like to see more 4-4-2 action against the likes of stoke, hull, and other home draws.....
Torres and Eto'o up front?? Would we have so many 0-0s against lesser teams? If one of them gets injured, we've still got an amazing striker to be the focal point of a 4-2-3-1

I'm sure Eto'o is sh*tting himself that he is going to be replaced by "The Doyler!"
I think we need genuine pace as back up option for Torres. Kuyt can cover for Torres, but we need some threat for balls in behind, which Kuyt (and Crouchy when he was here) can't offer. Apparently Doyle doesn't fit that bill.

I still think Zaki is an option. Either him or Mido if we are going for cheap back up. They will do no worse than Babel or Ngog.
