I think that the days when players viewed us a big club are well and truly gone. Rightly or wrongly, we're NOT seen as big club by the people that matter - current top players. They don't even remember when we last won the league - our achievements are nothing more than a history lesson to them and it's very hard to see where we go from here, what with FFP ruling out any sugar daddy type investments.
We find it very easy to sign players that no one else is after (aspas, mignolet, alberto, borini, allen, carroll, toure, sturridge, suarez, henderson, enrique etc etc etc). But as soon as a potential target has a choice of LFC or A.N.Other we lose out. That's what concerns me the most right now and I don't see how it will change.

I think when we were finishing in a champions league spot under RB it was almost papering over the cracks. now four seasons without CL and its becoming more difficult to get the players we want. that's the big problem if luis leaves we wont get someone of his quality as a replacement.

It's going to be a tougher than ever now that the top players see us a fallback option/plan B. In recent years we've overcome this by supplementing signings with top quality youngsters like gerrard, fowler, macmanaman, owen. Sadly, we have sweet FA coming through the ranks so it's all about who we can buy who either isn't wanted elsewhere, or who doesn't want CL football/big wages.
I said a few weeks ago that we WILL finish 6th this season. Upon reflection, I think we'll finish 6th for many years to come.

City attracted top players while they were much smaller than what we are now and before that Chelsea or now Monaco and PSG who just bought Falcao and probably Cavanni respectively. Not sure how tha FFP is changing things when I see those teams spending. If ever FFP is implemented, then we will need owners that would invest in a stadium without looking for immediate returns, our revenues are still higher compared to most teams including those 4 teams, but not for very long. This is what FSG needs to understand.

City paid high wages to compensate that they were not a top club we can't or won't do this. It's hard to see us breaking out of this cycle. I could cope with us being an average club but us also being one of the most expensive because of what happened 25 years ago is hard to take.
Garbage ground garbage board and much as I love them you have to say a team hard to get excited over these days. And too many of our fans prepared to accept this rubbish

And too many of our fans prepared to accept this rubbish I accept that times are tough and that we need to build up again. I accept it is not going to be done overnight. I accept that if the money is spent more efficiently then as a by-product things will improve. It was not so long ago that Everton where doing a Wigan each year. (well discounting this year) It was not that long ago that Spurs finished 11th in the league.
