Why don't we want to be man city ?
They will be a force in their own right within 5 years take a look at what they are doing. It's far more than a sugar daddy owner. Because when their owners leave they are screwed financially. Why would their owners leave? These guys are investing to build a brand and they are being more successful than us in doing it. Chelsea has already overtaken us on shirt sales, soon it would be City. City has better owners than United by the way who are just looting the club by paying for the loan they took to buy United and even paid themselves dividends last year. Because thats what owners do, at some point they either get bored/ get old/ run out of money/ or die, how many clubs do you know that have had the same owners for its entire existence that aren't owned by a council or fans? chelsea wont be so bad, but they will suffer a bit when he leaves, city on the other hand will be ruined.

Not if by then they succeed in building a brand. If both clubs continue on the path they took in the last 3 years for the next 20 yrs, i would be more worried about us.

if that club and brand was built on money generated from ticket and shirt sales to cover the cost of player and staff transfer fees and wages then yeah you would be right, but its not, thats too slow a process, its built on money injected by the owners, which as i say, when they are gone, city will just struggle with debt

Trust me they could be bigger than anyone in 5years. the scale of commercial development is staggering. We only see the bums on seats, the whole area is under massive regeneration all funded by the owner - go to a concert there its incredible

They are thinking long term and are investing now to reap in a distant future. Our owners do not want or can't invest, they want the club to be self sustained right now and hope that returns will come rather sooner than later.

Yes its a far sighted policy theirs, and of course they're converting the increasingly risky petrodollars into Sterling via bricks and mortar, the club etc, these guys know what they're about.

Is far easier to call me names then rationalise how FSG will get Liverpool back into the champions league or even shadow of what we were ten years ago. Never mind the 70,s and 80,s which looks t never be repeated

The thing is - everyone wants to be authoritative and declarative on this site - but we're all just going to have to wait and see. People writing these long essays about the intent and sports psychology of FSG are just p1ssing in the wind. Some conjecture is clever but hardly foolproof. Of course we have to wait and see, but we have also SEEN a few things already, you might not have noticed. The worst 3 seasons of LFC that I can remember were since FSG took over, ie, we finished 6th, 8th and 7th in the league. Last season was the worst I can remember, we we out of all competitions as early as end of Feb, we couldn't even qualify for Europa League for god's sake. I say it just cannot get worse, but, you never know.
