One thing we can be sure of, is that all the clubs with top 4/5 aspirations will be strengthening....and probably with better players than we can attract or afford.

3 things I am certain of:

1) the gap between 5th & 6th will widen this year
2) the gap between 6th & 7th will widen this year
3) liverpool will finish 6th

If Tottenham lose Bale, why do you think that they'll strenghten more than Liverpool?

I suppose you won't be watching the EPL this season then, unless you follow other teams, as you know exactly what is going to happen to LFC

I'll be watching it as much as any other season. It's like a film; even if I know the ending it doesn't stop me from watching and enjoying it as it unfolds.

1) no point in discussing IF spurs lose a player or not until it happens (what IF we lose suarez..?)
2) they're about to sign an extremely good midfielder so are already better off than last season
3) IF IF IF IF IF IF IF they lose bale, what makes you think they wouldn't be stronger by investing the £50m-£60m fee on quality players?

As it stands, I'm not sure we've improved on last years squad yet. We've lost Carragher and replaced him with Toure. And we've signed 2 very unproven spaniards - anything could happen with them. Aspas had a good season in tier 2 followed by a reasonable season in top flight. That makes him a danny graham or a ricky lambert, but without EPL experience.

There's too much negativity going around these days.. We're used to things going badly for the last few years and being slammed by opposition fans due to web warriors going on every site saying this is our year...

There's no such thing as certainty in football. Spurs are currently in a better position than us but it wasn't long ago that they weren't even in sight. Did they spend more than us to suddenly get ahead? I doubt it. A bit of good fortune here, some right decisions there and suddenly we're below them. The point is unexpected [oops] happens and things change.

The gap between us and european spots wasn't that big last season. Just 4-5 matches where the result went in our favour were needed. I'm pretty sure we had more than that number where we outplayed a team and didn't get the result.

All I'm interested in at the moment is for Liverpool to play entertaining football and keep improving every year. We seem to be doing that. We got a bunch of new players already and apart from the eternal Suarez saga, there doesn't seem to be much that should have us worried.

A bit more positivity doesn't hurt.

What makes Paulinho proven ahead of Aspas? Neither has played in the premiership so there is no guarantee with either. Aspas got on the team of the year so you might be doing him a disservice there.

There is no guarantee that they will get further ahead of Liverpool next year. What is your definition of the gap widening by the way? Is it points?

I think this is a statement which has not been thought through at all. Perhaps you mean they will be strengthening with more famous players, or more expensive players, but whether they are better is very very debatable.
