Who actually scouted and signed Luis Suarez? I know that kenny was the manager at the time but it seemed like he'd been on our radar since before he came back. We've got 3 options:

1) kenny thoroughly scouted him and signed him up within 2 weeks of rejoining LFC
2) he was signed by 'the club' a la joe cole, with no managerial input.....a 'director of football' type signing if you like....
3) roy hodgson

Neither option seem likely to me!! Anyone?

I always thought it was initiated under hodgsons reign and finalised under dalglish. But probably he was looked at before hodgson joined us.

Looked at by 'who' though - Benitez? or do we have a team of scouts that remain constant at the club regardless of who the manager is?

I think Benitez helped set up an extensive scouting library at the club. So I presume he'd have been on our radar before Hodgson. Scouts would maybe have suggested him to Roy and then Kenny, and Kenny was able to get the deal done after being given full confidence by the owners to get the squad at a competitive level. That's what seems likeliest in my head. Not sure our team have scouts have been constant for an extensive period of time. More likely started to be introduced as BR arrived.

i believe it was commolli or certainly he did say somewhere that he had brought the deal to the club.
Miereles was Benitez, Cole was Purslow

Comolli it was and it was his role to find players according to the profile given by the manager and the overall transfer budget given by the owners, but, I would think that the last call to buy a particular player was the manager's and rubber stamping of the fee was the owners'.

Always thought he was Raffa's trophy in regards to being scouted, so to speak.

I don't know about the scouting system up until BR got the job, but he head hunted the Man City scouts from what I gather (from the end of 2012, not necessarily last summer - City not releasing them or something...)

Sturridge was scouted by them years ago for City, Coutinho is obviously one of there's also.

Borini, Allen and the other summer signings were BR's by all accounts.

What were we talking about again???

It wasn't rocket science at that time to know at that time that Suarez was one of the most coveted forwards in Europe. He single-handedly brought Uruguay to the WC semis and has been playing well at Ajax. I won't give anyone a lot of credit for 'scouting' him!
