I know what you mean, but you must admit, someone like Ibrahimovic, Falcao, Cavani etc. would be far better than what someone likeAspas will be able to manage.
A player's value isn't completely meaningless, if a club is willing to pay £30m for someone, he obviously has more talent than someone who is readily available for £7m, no? Not to say the £7m player isn't good, but he won't be as good as the £30m player.
Don't get me wrong, I like Sturridge a lot, I think he will be good for us, but he's not a 30 goals a season striker.
Original point was just a thought as to if we spent all of the Suarez money (transfer fee and wages) on 1 player instead of the inevitable 2/3/4, would we be able to get a top class striker..?
If you look at his stats pro-rata since he joined us, a 30 goals per season striker is precisely what he is.
Absolutely spot on with his stats there mate and I think he will be a prolific striker in the right set up. The signs are already there.
I look at it this way. Absolutely love us having Suarez and really want to see us keep him. But now it looks like that might not happen so you have to accept the inevitable. £40m buys a lot of firepower and if the manager picks up another Sturridge and Coutinho he will still have half the transfer money left over.
Would not expect us to blow it all on one player and the board will be monitoring purchases carefully and looking for the value signings.
Realistically Suarez is one of the hottest properties around and despite all the baggage is still worth every penny of that £40m. Statistics say that we win more games without him. We obviously play a different way without him. There was a similar stat about Gerrard a couple of years ago when he missed a few games. Sometimes we do get better results. Not saying we play better but we get better results.
As a single player he cannot be replaced but we must look to find a couple more players capable of being true match winners.
