No way, Rodgers hates Carroll. If you watch every interview he has every done about Carroll he has basically said "Andy is a world class player, if he plays in a team which suits him" in other words he's good but he can fck off and be good elsewhere.

the word "world class" and "borini" should only be used in a sentance such as:

Borini: The world class statue
Borini: world class shocking celebration

A player's value isn't completely meaningless, if a club is willing to pay £30m for someone, he obviously has more talent than someone who is readily available for £7m, no? Not to say the £7m player isn't good, but he won't be as good as the £30m player.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sturridge a lot, I think he will be good for us, but he's not a 30 goals a season striker.

Original point was just a thought as to if we spent all of the Suarez money (transfer fee and wages) on 1 player instead of the inevitable 2/3/4, would we be able to get a top class striker..?

If you look at his stats pro-rata since he joined us, a 30 goals per season striker is precisely what he is.

Absolutely spot on with his stats there mate and I think he will be a prolific striker in the right set up. The signs are already there.

I look at it this way. Absolutely love us having Suarez and really want to see us keep him. But now it looks like that might not happen so you have to accept the inevitable. £40m buys a lot of firepower and if the manager picks up another Sturridge and Coutinho he will still have half the transfer money left over.

Would not expect us to blow it all on one player and the board will be monitoring purchases carefully and looking for the value signings.

Realistically Suarez is one of the hottest properties around and despite all the baggage is still worth every penny of that £40m. Statistics say that we win more games without him. We obviously play a different way without him. There was a similar stat about Gerrard a couple of years ago when he missed a few games. Sometimes we do get better results. Not saying we play better but we get better results.

As a single player he cannot be replaced but we must look to find a couple more players capable of being true match winners.

Suarez is our only world class player. We aren't going to be able to get a straight replacement for him. One does not exist. When CR left United, they had the same problem. I think we should try and buy the best we can get whilst Suarez is still here. Once he leaves, our desperation (plus any funds we have) will immediately push up the price on his replacement - be it Muriel or whoever. He's got a lot left on his contract. Personally, unless there's a release clause, I'd keep him at almost any cost - including ridiculous wages, if that was enough. Selling him to a UK club would be an absolute disaster - and I presume FSG would realise that. If he does go, we have to spend the money on just one or two outstanding players as opposed to four squad players - and we certaily shouldn't be taking any RM cast offs - someone posted Nunez as an example of why.

I'm not sure any players currently available in the EPL would be good enough so we have to hope that the people who spotted Suarez will find someone abroad with similar potential. I say potential as I don't believe the fully developed talent will yet come to us without CL football.

I agree im just thinking we are not going to attract a player of saurez ability, so keep sturridge and strengthen our midfield and defence.

We worry too much.

Porto do it constantly. Jackson Martinez is a player they signed of high quality and someone we probably would have signed if KK/Commoli had stayed. Payed buttons for him.

Before him they bought Falcao who is just the Boss of all proper strikers.

Personally, I feel that from a full season Sturridge as our main goal getter will grab 20 a season quite comfortably if he stays fit.

As long as we spend the £40m on two top quality players in the attacking fold I'd be happy!

A cut price David Villa (on sensible wages and a reduced transfer fee) coupled with Benteke from Aston Villa would be fantastic cushion in the advent of Suarez leaving.

Either way, don't panic. Our performance level is not exactly much different when he is or isn't in the team if you really think about it.

Suarez Fee would pay for those three practically.

I could live with that!
