Drome the English invented the game , the english league has always been one of the strongest proof is the amount of Irish who support English clubs so I think thats a decent answer . yes quite correct faz but don't forget if the Irish had there own decent league they would not follow English clubs as they wouldn't need to. It's a good point you make tho faz about how the English invented it and exported it around the world, English sailors had quite alot to do with it as I know some parts of Argentina were heavily influenced by English sailors who introduced it there, even Juventus were influenced by Notts County all those years ago.

Our manager is also Irish... not going to hold that against him, he's doing decent enough job just wish he would take the cups serious and field his full hit.

Drome the English invented the game , the english league has always been one of the strongest proof is the amount of Irish who support English clubs so I think thats a decent answer . i take your point on inventing the game. am just curious as to how most people see it. apparently only around 34% of all players who started games in the prem this season are english (compared to 63% in spain and 68% in germany). sam allerdyce is the only english manager in the top 10 this season. and it's been a long time since an english owned team won the league. the league is well supported internationally of course. it's a huge commercial entity but outside of it being called the english premier league....just how much of the strength is english? the league is more of a foreign owned, foreign managed, foreign played sport won by foreigners but watched by english people from the stands. is that a football nation? the english first division and then the premier league has always been one of the most well know and strongest leagues ever even when the teams were banned from europe the english league was still strong , and if it wasnt why were the games shown live for years and years in norway and ireland even in the years of england's excile from UEFA competitions if england is not a footballing nation , ROI and NI are and have produced great football people , but same as wales the national leagues are no better then semi pro leagues .

so england has foreign managers and foreign players playing for them and we just drew at ur place so i would say we are equal in terms of footballing ability. come back over to our place for the decider. actually we have a the better record over the last 20 or 30 yrs in head to heads so we are better.

Scotland I would class as a footballing nation they are football daft other than rugby union that's all they play apart from tossing the odd caber.
Yet their national team is probably worse than Ireland and with an overall greater population than Ireland there are 5 million scots

The Scotland team under Levein were the worst I have seen, not as a collection of players, but in terms of passion, they were a disgrace. It's been a long long time since Scotland had any genuine top players, all very average at best and we have even taken to stealing sh*** players from England, it's a sorry state of affairs.
I think Scottish population have decided to plan ahead for the day when smoking, drinking, shooting up and stabbing folk are added to the Olympics, we will be world beaters.

By the way, I agree with what Emp was saying a while back about James Mccarthy, I think he is going to be the best Scottish player we have seen in a long while... I won't comment on his choice of national team though.
