Question to our Irish koptalkers do honestly believe Ireland the republic or the north are footballing nations ? Yes both countries have produced great players but nearly all have never plyed there trade in thete own countries , and the ROI's greatest teams which I would say was 87 to 91 were mostly english or scots with the brilliant jack charlton as manager who was sa English as they come world cup winners .

Footballing nation? What does that really mean? The way I view it is we play international football and try to do as well as we can. Although since we are a small nation we dont often do well. However we do occasionally get a good crop of players and do well at the odd tournament(Italia 90)In terms of fans, nearly everyone in the country suports the soccer team and will watch them when their on and follow them. So you can decide yourself.

I must admit I did enjoy the Jack Charlton Ireland team, Houghton, Aldridge and Andy Townsend e.t.c. as it did produce a few shock victories over England 88 and Italy in 94.

Given numbers playing footy etc English fans would do well to keep quiet....1 win in how many tournaments. Ireland overachieve every time we qualify....any news on sturridge....those innocuous ones often end up bad

Ireland are as much as a footballing nation as England thats a fact. Neither are as much of a footballing nation as Brazil, Spain, Italy though no where near it. I dont understand how you can say its not a "footballing nation" at all when football is played from all ages up, think the lowest age level in my area is under 9s and almost every village around has a football team and the closest towns have a few teams too, Coolflames you haven't a clue what your talking about we play football as much as any other country but our game ain't run by money so its not heard of as much.

Drome the English invented the game , the english league has always been one of the strongest proof is the amount of Irish who support English clubs so I think thats a decent answer .
