The transfers in are average, perhaps diame improving us a little, the formation is horrible, no wingers does not work over the course of a full season, though you could tweak that to make sturridge coutinho and suarez a rotating front 3. jose and glenno are more or less wingers anyway.such is modern football. you start getting little one two's around the middle and it be easy to release either jose or glen on the wing..this is the way forward.

no team could cope facing that front 3. enemy fullbacks would have to stay tight to the centre halfs leaving space for our fullbacks ,whose markers have gone in central to stop coutinho and gerrard playing thru them..
plus the front 3 allows for a high pressing game, if the enemy passes out to its midfield u have diame hunting them down - which in turn allows our fullbacks to push onto their wingers , still leaving us with an effective defensive 3 of huth agger and lucas . its genius not funny.

The only way playing without wingers would work is if you play with 3 CB's and have Enrique and Johnson in more forward positions as wing backs. Which I think is close to what your suggesting but with your formation, even if johnson and Enrique do bomb forward in your formation then that would leave us to vulnerable down the wings.
I posted a not to dissimilar formation a while back that I think could work in a similar way but with less of the problems:
-------Kelly----Agger----NEW---------
Johnson---------Lucas----------Enrique
-------Suarez--Gerrard--Coutinho------
---------------Sturridge-------------
That way the WB's have more freedom to get forward and play the role your suggesting, without having to worry so much about being exposed down the flanks.
We still have the 4 attacking players staying fairly central to cause defenders problems, and if we start to lose the midfield battle we can get Gerrard to sit a bit deeper to help out Lucas.
But those players you suggested for £50m aren't near good enough. I'd take Diame, and would love Begovic, but that's about it.
