Cameron said: "I made my own views clear just as a dad watching the game. I've got a seven-year-old son who just loves watching football and when players behave like this it just sets the most appalling example to young people in our country."
"There are people, I've read in some newspapers, who think somehow this isn't serious. I think it is serious, when we're trying to bring up our children properly, they do see football players as role models.
Doesn't sit right with me. Why didn't he make comments when other more serious offences were committed? What he's essentially saying is that biting is a more serious offence than career-ending leg-breakers or a punch on the face.
Wasn't he offended as a dad and human being when there were other forms of violence on the pitch? It's ok for his kid to see someone break a leg but not biting?

Speaking out as he has done on a subject personal to him and his son, is an abuse of his position as prime minister. I don't give a toss if he's personally 'appalled' at Suarez's actions - most people are, but he wasn't elected to comment on footballing matters that have annoyed his son! Personally, I'm 'appalled' at the way he runs the country but I don't have a public platform.

Don't agree really. I think he is entitled to voice his opinion. I don't care about whether people appreciate his opinion or not, and how widespread his thoughts might travel. Freedom of speech is there for a reason.
That I don't agree with his opinion is irrelevant to any argument on him voicing his own. So long as there is no hypocrisy, and charges aren't brought against anyone voicing them, then I don't feel he has done anything wrong/over-stepped his mark.

He's entitled to his opinion, but the freedom of speech card is only relevant 'as an individual', it can't be used in his capacity as prime minister because then he is speaking on behalf of his party and constituents who wouldn't necessarily agree with his personal opinion.

He was asked for his opinion on the matter and he gave it. He never addressed it as the thoughts of the conservatives. It was done in a standard interview where he was asked for a personal opinion on the matter. I think this whole "he shouldn't speak out if he is a public figure" is exactly the kind of disrespectful mentality we are setting as a country. Everyone is entitled to free-speech, not just ordinary people on the street.

That woud set off s different bout of false indignation.

Good idea, but we'd all have to hear how 'appalled' he is again. Like we give a t0ss.
