The bigger question is on clarity of the bans. I predicted it would be 12, so in a way, I am glad I was wrong. Ultimately, the problems lie in the FA. Without adding credence to any suggestion that Utd run the show, why is there no clear structure to the length of a ban? Surely there should be clear rules to ensure this kind of targeting doesn't happen. There should be clear differences between bans for violent conduct, verbal and physical abuse, and all players should be subject to this.
If they laid this out now, in light of the incident, I'd accept it knowing that the justification and punishment are fair to all. I reckon Liverpool should appeal, but demand that the current 10 game ban will start this weekend, irrespective of whether they choose to reduce it. That they could choose to lengthen it truly shows how wrong the system can be, or should I say just is!
Only subjectivity separates a guy punching a guy and a guy biting a guy and how bad these look and are on the field. Where does the random allocation of 10 games come from? Its a bizarre and dated way to judge situations and needs addressing now.
