He was great last season, but he has been very suspect lately. Getting Diame or another tough-tackling DM would be at the top of my list along with a new centre half.

I think it also has to do with the fact our defence line (CB's) isn't that good either. With Lucas it's almost like we have a 5 man defence line!

We know Carra will retire. Add to that shipping Skrtel out and replace with 2 solid CB's and our defence is sorted.

After that we can start discussing Lucas and his flaws. Then we'll not need him or a player that one dimensional at all I think. Or maybe keep him as backup sub when we want to close a game out at 1-0 up?

I've never been a fan but he did improve hugely last year. Since injury he has just been back to his old self, which is a shame.

I don't understand the positionining of our midfield in general though, which probably contributes to him playing badly. Why does he have to play that deep all the time? Rediculous. If he pushed up a little then he would at least add to the play, being able to get the ball from defense and pass on, it is something!

Lucas has to play deep because not one of our central defenders is very good at defending. Like 'van gogh' says, new centre backs is a greater urgency, as this will allow Lucas to get forward and make up the numbers in midfield where we always get over run.

And remember Lucas used to play as an offensive mid i Brazil. He even was Gremio's top goalscorer once if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah a lot of our defensive troubles have their origins in midfield, where as you say we're too easily over run, add that to a weak defense and you'll always leak goals against even modest attackers.

He would be better playing further up and not giving daft fouls away outside the box, for sure lol

He can't pass, doesn't contribute goals or assists so why would we play him further up the pitch?

So poor and gets worse every time I watch him.

He's lost his edge since his injury and that split second causes all those daft fouls, the problem is the squad is so threadbare we have no one else for that position. We may sign someone for that position in the summer, but I feel our best hope is for him to fully recover his form over the break.

injuries seem to have took there toll on him he cant seem to get around the pitch like before his injuries .
